There are only a few weekends left in the regular season. That means it’s crunch time. We have a good slate of games coming up over the next couple of days. Here is just a taste of what should be a fun and exciting weekend.

Previewing This Weekend In College Basketball

Men’s Games

#5 Kansas Jayhawks vs #9 Baylor Bears

Another day, another big day in the Big 12. Jayhawks-Bears is the game of the weekend. Kansas currently sits in position for a 1 seed and could be the #1 overall seed when the NCAA Selection Committee makes their preview reveal on Saturday. It is worth noting, though, that Kansas seems to struggle every other Saturday. Baylor, on the other hand, has been on a tear over the past month and is a borderline 2/3 seed right now.

#12 Kansas State Wildcats vs #19 Iowa State Cyclones

Look, another big Big 12 game. Both of these teams have exceeded expectations this season; however, they are both in skids right now. Kansas State has lost five of seven, and Iowa State has lost four of six. But they are both still very good basketball teams who will be looking to get back on track when they face off on Saturday.

#23 NC State Wolfpack vs North Carolina Tar Heels

This is a HUGE game for UNC. Not only is it a big rivalry game, but it would be a really good win for their resume as it’s a quad 1 game. The Tar Heels currently have zero such wins. They have lost four of their last five games and have fallen to the wrong side of the bubble.

Drake Bulldogs vs Belmont Bruins

Belmont has made the move to the MVC seamlessly. Like usual in The Valley, it hasn’t been easy, with five teams within a game of first, but the Bruins have done a good job. Led by senior Ben Sheppard, they sit just a game behind Drake and Bradley. Nick McGlynn and Drake are trying to win the Bulldogs their first regular season MVC title since 2019.

VCU Rams vs Fordham Rams

The battle of the Rams takes place this weekend in Richmond. Fordham is having their best season in decades. At 21-5, they have already secured their first 20+ win season since 1990-1991. They are only a game back in the A-10. The one school they’re trailing? VCU. Just like Drake, they are trying to win the school’s first regular-season conference championship since 2019.

Women’s Games

#6 Connecticut Huskies vs #14 Villanova Wildcats

Maddy Siegrist is perhaps the nation’s best scorer. She is averaging 29.4 points per game on the season. Last Saturday, she dropped 50 on Seton Hall and scored 39 more against St. John’s on Wednesday. She is a big reason why the Wildcats are in the midst of arguably the best season in program history. Beating the legendary UConn Huskies would be huge. But UConn is hungry for a win as they have struggled so overall so far in the month of February.
