The first-round series loss the Utah Jazz felt through the Dallas Mavericks will leave the team with plenty of questions to answer this season. The major one, of course, will be the future of their stars. Rudy Gobert trade ideas will emerge throughout the offseason, as will those with Donovan Mitchell. Utah can consistently make the playoffs with this duo, but it looks clear that they are incapable of a deep playoff run.
Three Rudy Gobert Trade Ideas
The Warriors Swoop In
Utah Jazz receive Andrew Wiggins and James Wiseman.
Golden State Warriors receive Rudy Gobert.
The Warriors will always be in contention as long as they have Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Jordan Poole is the latest stud they’ve developed as well. For this reason, they can look to upgrade their center position. With all this firepower in-store, the Warriors wouldn’t need Gobert to stand out on offense. He’ll find plenty of open looks, however, with the Warriors’ surrounding shooting. Gobert, however, will completely change the dynamic on defense for Golden State. A starting five of Curry, Poole, Thompson, Green, and Gobert is a scary thought.
Utah gets a secondary scorer in Wiggins here. Mitchell will still be number one, but Wiggins will surely average 17+ points per game with the Jazz. He’s versatile too, which the Jazz like, and can play three different positions. Utah’s loves their shooting, and Wiggins brings this. In addition, they get a young piece in Wiseman to take Gobert’s spot. Wiseman is struggling with injury, but the potential is still tantalizing.
Charlotte Finally Finds their Center in this Rudy Gobert Trade
Utah Jazz receive Gordon Hayward, PJ Washington, and Nick Richards.
Charlotte Hornets receive Rudy Gobert.
The Hornets have plenty of offensive firepower but have been lacking a true five for quite some time now. With Gobert likely being available, the Hornets must pounce. He’ll completely upgrade the defense but also form a terrifying pick-and-roll duo with up-and-coming star LaMelo Ball. Ball, Gobert, and Miles Bridges are a very strong “big three” for Charlotte to move forward with.
This also presents a homecoming for Hayward. He also struggles with injury but can provide a scoring punch when healthy. Washington is an extremely versatile forward who can defend multiple positions. His offensive game is growing as well. His youth and potential will be a major draw for Utah. Finally, the Jazz get center depth with the young Richards.
Three Team Madness
Utah Jazz receive Luke Kennard, Obi Toppin, Evan Fournier, and the Knicks’ first-round pick.
New York Knicks receive Rudy Gobert and Norman Powell.
Los Angeles Clippers receive Julius Randle.
There are a lot of moving parts here. For starters, the Jazz can begin a mini-rebuild while staying competitive. Kennard and Fournier can fill the bucket from deep, which is definitely what Utah loves. The Jazz also get a promising big in Toppin who can instantly move into the starting line-up. Finally, they can target a new center with the Knicks’ first-round pick.
New York gives up a number of players in this trade but upgrades their roster. Gobert only improves this top defense, while Powell adds more electrifying scoring. The Knicks will still need a point guard but can address that in free agency.
The Clippers lose two backcourt scorers but add a tough big in Randle. He had a down year but can reinvigorate himself by playing with top stars like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
