Nearly every season at the trade deadline a player is dealt from a bottom-feeding team to a championship-contending team. Last season, we saw P.J. Tucker join the Milwaukee Bucks from the lowly Rockets, helping push them over the hump for an NBA championship. So, in this article, we will look at potential trade targets to push a championship team over the top.
Potential Trade Targets to Push a Championship Team over the Top
1. Terrance Ross
Terrence Ross is at the age of 30 on a rebuilding and up-and-coming Orlando Magic team. It is almost definite that he is moved at the trade deadline since he is taking minutes away from the young Magic players. Ross is an absolute sparkplug off of the bench. Averaging a great 15.6 points per game last season, he has the ability to catch fire scoring 51 points in a game. Ross would be the perfect sixth man option for a team as he can come in and only concern himself with scoring. Ross is also a decently efficient shooter from behind the arc, shooting 36.6% percent for his career. He is tremendous at running off of pin-down screens and firing his threes while on the move. He also provides rim pressure getting downhill which then causes the defensive to rotate over leaving open spot-up shooters on the wings.
2. Eric Gordon
Houston Rocket’s guard Eric Gordon could tremendously help out a championship-contending team. At the age of 32, Gordon, like Terrence Ross is an older player in a rebuilding situation. Gordon is seeing the least playing time of his career at 26.9 minutes per game. However, when Gordon has been on the court he has been terrific. Gordon is averaging 13.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. In addition, he is shooting at a blistering rate from the field and from beyond the three-point line. He is shooting 51.4% percent from the field while shooting 52.9% percent from three on 4.3 attempts per game. Eric Gordon can create for himself by shooting off the bounce of sporting up. Also, like Ross, Gordon is elite at running off of pin-down screens and firing three while moving. Throughout his years in the NBA, Gordon has also drastically improved on the defensive end, being a very solid defender who slides their feet well.
3. Danuel House
Danuel House is yet another Houston Rockets player who could be on the move at the trade deadline. At the age of 28, House could even potentially be in a deal with the previously mentioned, Eric Gordon. House is the proto-typical three-and-d player in today’s modern NBA. Every team desperately needs a player of House’s skill set as he can guard the best perimeter player on the opposing team every night while also being able to know down threes when needed. Last season, Danuel House averaged 8.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He also shot 34.6% percent from beyond the arc on 4.3 attempts per game. Unlike the before-mentioned Terrence Ross and Eric Gordon, House gets his three-point attempts up by spotting up behind the arc instead of moving. House is simply just a team player that every championship team needs.
