Jarrett Allen re-signs with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being acquired early last season. The two sides agreed to a 5-year contract worth $100 million, or $20 million per season. This contract ties him down through the 2026 NBA season.

Jarrett Allen Re-Signs with the Cleveland Cavaliers
Over his 5-year NBA career, Jarrett Allen has played for the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers. He has put up 10.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for his career. The Nets selected Allen in the 1st round, 22nd overall in the 2017 NBA draft. Last season he scored 12.8 points and 10 boards for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Allen also averaged 1.4 blocks, a sign of the stellar paint defense he played for the Cavaliers.
What This Means for the Cavaliers Future
The Cleveland Cavaliers just drafted Evan Mobley in the 2021 NBA Draft. They believe that they can get the two big men to co-exist in the frontcourt. Jarrett Allen proved in his short time with the Cavaliers that he is an effective run-and-dunk center plus a high-level rim protector. Allen will act as a mentor to Mobley in the early stages of his contract. If the Cavaliers find that running two big men doesn’t work, Mobley would have learned some valuable lessons to NBA defense before Allen moves on to his next team. If it does work, Allen and Mobley could become one of the best defensive duos in the league.
