It looks like Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love may be on the move before the February trade deadline. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has reported that the Cavaliers will begin to listen to offers for Love. Many different trade rumors regarding Kevin Love are bound to occur. While many teams would love to acquire the former all-star, only a select number of teams have the assets and cap space to get a deal done. Kevin Love may not be in the prime of his career anymore, but he still has plenty to contribute.
Potential Trade Destinations for Kevin Love
San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs will be the most enticing team for the Cavaliers to make a deal with. They currently have two players whose names have been tossed around the rumor mill for some time now. DeMar DeRozan is most likely the player who would be on the move in a trade. He is clearly not a system fit for Gregg Popovich and could use a change of scenery.
The Cavaliers would acquire a fantastic scorer in DeRozan and add a new spark to their roster. A player such as Marco Belinelli may also be used to entice the Cavaliers into getting a deal done. A change of scenery may be what everyone in this potential trade needs at this point in their careers.
Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic may be the way to go if what Cleveland is seeking is young talent. The Cavaliers are in full rebuild mode and may want to add more young talent to their roster. They could find this in Aaron Gordon whose name has already been mentioned in various trade rumors. Gordon would provide some new energy to a struggling Cavaliers team as well as contribute on the defensive end.
For Orlando, it has become very clear that they need something new. Perhaps a veteran leader such as Love may be able to lead that team into the playoffs alongside Nikola Vucevic. For this trade to work, Orlando would also have to throw in a player such as Markelle Fultz or D.J. Augustin to balance the cap.
Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are currently on a hot streak in the Western Conference but aren’t quite true contenders yet. They may need one more veteran player such as Love to give them a shot at the championship.
The Cleveland Cavaliers desperately need help shooting the ball and that’s exactly what Dallas can offer. In order to trade for Love, the Mavericks would likely send over Tim Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry.
Cleveland would immediately improve in terms of three-point shooting and have some talented players to build around. For Dallas, they would be getting a well-rounded veteran player who can help lead this team as they get deeper into the season. With a trio of Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Love there is no telling how far this team could go.
Portland Trailblazers
A trade to the Portland Trail Blazers may mean that the Cavaliers are getting desperate. The one player Portland could send over in exchange for Love is Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside possesses all the talent in the world, but that doesn’t always translate on the court.
Love could immediately step in and fill a position that has been struggling as of late. Cleveland, on the other hand, might be hesitant to make this deal. Whiteside has caused a little bit of drama on both the Miami Heat and the Trail Blazers. Taking a chance on him is something they may not be willing to do. However, he is on the last year of his deal and the Cavs would likely get a draft pick or a young prospect back as well.
While there is no guarantee that Love will be traded, there is now a strong possibility. A lot of trade rumors regarding Kevin Love will begin to circulate over the coming weeks. Many teams including those not on this list will likely call and see what it takes to get him. He may not be what he once was, but he can still provide great value to many teams in today’s NBA.
