Salt Lake City NBA

NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, is in Salt Lake City today. He is there to announce that Salt Lake City, Utah, will be hosting the 2023 NBA All-Star weekend. This is the first time the city of Salt Lake will be hosting the game since the 1993 season. The 2023 return marks 30 years since the team last hosted.

Utah Hosting All-Star Weekend in 2023

Adam Silver will be joined by owner Gail Miller, Utah Governor Gary Herbert, and Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski. The press conference will take place at 3:30 PM MST. The press conference will take place at Vivint Smarthouse Arena, the home of the Utah Jazz. This news is according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.

This comes as a bit of a surprise to most of Salt Lake City. The city isn’t the most appealing to most free agents. However, the ownership of the Jazz renovated their arena before the beginning of last season. The Miller family put in $125-million to renovate the arena that has been there since 1990. The news of enhancements to the arena is what put Salt Lake City as the front-runner to host the event.

When Utah last hosted the NBA All-Star Game, the Jazz had one of the best one-two punches in the league. John Stockton and Karl Malone were both participants in that game and went on to be co-MVP of the game. Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewingand Charles Barkley were a few of the other players to play in that game.

This year’s festivities will be held in Chicago. Indianapolis and Cleveland are also set to hold the NBA All-Star Game in the coming years.
