The Portland Trail Blazers’ season continues to surprise people because of how they surpassed expectations. With Portland’s rotation facing limitations due to the injuries, Shaedon Sharpe‘s return is a big deal. As they progress toward the Play-In Tournament, they are going from strength to strength.
What Shaedon Sharpe’s Return Means For The Blazers’ Season
The 2025-26 season has been a success for the Portland Trail Blazers. Many expected them to be competitive, but they have finished the season with a .500 record. This is the first time they have had this kind of record since the 2020-21 season. To start the campaign, the Blazers had to claw their way back after their coach’s suspension.
Acting head coach Tiago Splitter has done a wonderful job of stepping in and leading the charge. Amid all of their issues, they have had a lot of injuries, including one to Shaedon Sharpe. He was excellent throughout the season, but his injury could have put a cap on their potential success.
Sharpe’s Return Raises The Blazers’ Offensive Ceiling
This season, the Trail Blazers have had problems on the offensive side of the game. With Sharpe, they had a reliable scorer who could get 20 points a night. He and Deni Avdija were the bright spots in the first half of the season.
Of course, Avdija stepped in as the lead ball-handler, eventually culminating in an All-Star nod. Sharpe did not reach the same heights as his teammate, but he showed that he can hang with any defender. Whether it was shooting threes, mid-range shots, or athletic dunks, Sharpe had it all.

Moving forward, Sharpe’s return is a big deal for Portland. He is an explosive scorer who will start for Portland if he is fully healthy. Considering they only have one game before the Play-In Tournament, Splitter will think differently.
Starting Scoot Henderson has been working, so making Sharpe play as a sixth man is good. It can be jarring to see Sharpe on the bench, but Henderson has changed the offense in a major way.
The Blazers play the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday to determine if they start the Play-In as the eighth seed. If they win, they will play against the Phoenix Suns. If Portland loses, then the Los Angeles Clippers win; the Blazers play the Golden State Warriors.
Portland’s Rotation Is Much Deeper With Sharpe
The rotation over the past few weeks involved more wings than guards. For the guard rotation, Henderson and Jrue Holiday have mainly been the two options. Blake Wesley and Caleb Love received some minutes here and there.
Considering that Vit Krejci is out with an injury, Sharpe will likely take a good chunk of the minutes. Splitter will likely reduce Kris Murray‘s minutes, but it will depend on the game. Since Sharpe is still fresh from an injury, the rotation will have more options, but it will be game-dependent.

Splitter can also stagger the guards’ minutes, so Holiday and Henderson don’t have to play together as much. Both players are true point guards, so they can have Sharpe as their backcourt partner from time to time. This is a big-time shift for Portland’s rotation after their issues without a point guard in December.
Sharpe provides the offensive punch they need from the bench. Not only does he provide shot creation, but his transition play is also excellent. Defensively, Sharpe might struggle, but he will definitely try his best to contribute.
The Blazers’ Season Can Still Get Even Better
The regular season ends with Portland’s game against Sacramento on Monday. Winning that game will make them the eighth seed, so they have two shots at a spot in the Playoffs. The Trail Blazers want to reach the Playoffs, so they can compete for a shot at a title.
While it is unlikely for them to progress past the first round, it is valuable experience. Considering Damian Lillard will return in the 2026-27 season, an experienced supporting cast matters. If he comes back to a stronger team, the ceiling is limitless. He has been a valuable cheerleader this season, but getting him back on the court is important.
In the meantime, the 2025-26 campaign can get much better. The Blazers have all the tools to pull off some surprises. They are a scrappy team with a high ceiling on both ends of the floor. If Splitter’s team can build momentum, anything is possible for the Trail Blazers.
