Michigan Bolsters 2026 Class with Major 4-Star Stock Riser

Michigan has bolstered its 2026 class with the addition of a major four-star stock riser. On Tuesday, the Wolverines landed a massive pledge from 2026 four-star wing/power forward Quinn Costello, according to reports. The 6-foot-10 Costello was arguably the biggest stock riser in the 2026 cycle over the past few months.

Throughout his recruitment, Costello received nearly 30 high-major scholarship offers. He had a final six of Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Purdue and Texas. Dating back to last month, per 247Sports, Costello had taken official visits to Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State and, most recently, Michigan.

In early August, Rivals national analyst Jamie Shaw wrote that Michigan carried some momentum in Costello’s recruiting process heading into his official visits. Wolverines head coach Dusty May and his staff must have wowed Costello on his recent official visit, as the top-30 national prospect has verbally committed to this Big Ten Conference school.

Michigan Bolsters 2026 Class, Which Has Two Pledges

The Wolverines now have two verbal commits in their 2026 cycle. In early July, international big man Marcus Moller became Michigan’s first pledge in this class. The 7-foot-3 Moller, a center, is from Denmark and has been playing for Unicaja, a professional team in Malaga, Spain. According to 247Sports, others in pursuit of Moller included Colorado State, Oklahoma State and SMU.

With Costello on board, Michigan’s 2026 class sits at No. 20 overall, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. May and his assistants have offered a range of 2026 players. Two high school seniors to keep an eye on, as it relates to the Wolverines, are five-star small forward Anthony Thompson and five-star power forward Miikka Muurinen, per 247Sports.

Michigan’s New Commit Soared Over the Summer

Costello significantly elevated his stock by playing quite well on the AAU circuit this spring and summer, and also at other showcases during NCAA live periods with college coaches on hand. Those events included the Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas and the NBPA Top 100 camp in Rock Hill, S.C.
In the latest AAU season, Costello competed at a high level for the 17U team of the Boston-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour Association (“UAA”) league. In July, at the UAA’s season-ending tournament, Costello helped guide the Middlesex Magic to a third-place finish. Another standout for the Middlesex Magic in the 17U division was 2026 four-star point guard Ryan Moesch, who earlier this week verbally committed to Siena out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
During the most recent UAA campaign, Costello averaged 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.6 blocks per contest. The scouting experts at The Circuit named him their MVP in the Under Armour Association league for 2025.

Michigan’s 4-Star Pledge Skyrocketed in Rankings

Costello is a senior at The Newman School in Boston, which is an excellent prep-school program in the Northeast. Before the spring, he wasn’t even in the top 100, according to some recruiting services. In its latest update, Rivals put Costello at No. 28 overall. The 247Sports Composite has him at No. 38 nationally, No. 7 at power forward and No. 1 in Massachusetts. The industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, meanwhile, slots Costello at No. 44 overall, No. 8 at power forward and No. 1 in Massachusetts within the 2026 class.
