Koa Peat committed to Arizona.

Five-Star Commits to Arizona Ahead of Sweet Sixteen

Arizona has landed its second huge prospect in 2025. After Bryce James committed in January, five-star recruit Koa Peat announced his decision to commit to Arizona ahead of their Sweet Sixteen matchup against Duke. Peat ranks as the eighth-best prospect according to 247sports.com. So who is Peat? Where did he have other offers? And what does this mean for Tommy Lloyd and Arizona moving forward?

Five-Star Koa Peat Commits to Arizona Ahead of Sweet Sixteen

Who is Koa Peat?

Peat is a McDonald’s All-American from Gilbert, Arizona. At 6-foot-8, 235 pounds, he is a bruiser down low. He provides strong finishing at the rim and a big body to control the paint for the Wildcats. Peat is the number one player in the state of Arizona. Peat also ranks as the fourth-best power forward in the Class of 2025 and the eighth-best player overall. While he won’t be a player like Cooper Flagg, he provides a strong interior presence and will likely be a star player on a national championship-caliber team. Koa Peat’s commitment to Arizona marks a huge win for the Wildcats, as he also visited schools like Baylor, Texas, and Arkansas.

What Does It Mean for Arizona?

Any time a school receives a commitment from a five-star recruit, it’s a big deal. However, with Arizona playing in a huge matchup against Duke on Thursday night, it provides momentum to the squad. While Arizona won’t be playing with him tonight, Arizona basketball fans everywhere had another reason to cheer today when Koa Peat committed. Arizona has a legitimate chance to win tonight and make a serious championship run. However, if they fall short tonight, they already received assurance earlier today that their future will be in good hands.

Peat won’t be the most famous recruit in the class, with Bryce James joining the class. However, Llyod has now brought in the third highly-ranked recruit in 2025. Peat and James are joined by four-star recruit Dwayne Aristode, who signed with the Wildcats during the initial signing period. Arizona now has the 16th-best class in 2025.

The Last Word

Koa Peat committed to his hometown state in a huge win for Arizona basketball. Peat will join any returning players to form another strong roster next season that hopes to replicate any success from this season. However, the focus moves to tonight. The Wildcats still have a chance to win the national championship behind star Caleb Love. The future always matters, but never as much as winning now. Lloyd was likely watching while Peat announced his decision, but Lloyd is focused on beating Duke.

No matter who leaves and stays, the current season is always the priority, especially on a team like Arizona that has national championship aspirations. They’re still alive, but the Blue Devils hope to extinguish any flames left. Will Koa Peat’s commitment spark Arizona to an upset win? Or will Duke stifle the Wildcats on Thursday, leaving Peat as the only bright side on an otherwise miserable day? Only time will tell.
