2024-25 NBA MVP Odds: Can This Warriors Star Win The MVP?

Stephen Curry is now nearly a decade removed from his first MVP award. He won back-to-back MVPs in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons and has only one top-three finish since then. As Steph Curry net worth keeps climbing, his play has stayed the same. Curry showed during the Warriors 2022 NBA Finals run and this year’s Olympics that he can still be one of the best players in the league, but the Warriors current season outlook may hamper his ability to make noise in the MVP conversation. This 2024-25 NBA betting preview will determine whether Stephen Curry’s MVP odds are worth taking as your best NBA futures bet for next season.

The Glory Years

Curry has been one of the faces of the NBA for the last decade. Starting with the Warriors first playoff series with him in the 2012-13 season, Curry has amazed the entire basketball world with his shooting, showmanship, and basketball wizardry. Since that season, Curry has averaged over 20 points a game each season and has amassed quite the trophy case.

Curry has two MVP awards, four championships, one finals MVP, 10 All-NBA selections, two scoring titles, and one steals title. Most of those accomplishments happened more than a couple of years ago, but Curry has not stopped his incredible performances. Last season, at the age of 36, even while taking a statistical step backward from the season before, he was named to the All-NBA Third Team.

Curry’s Case Relies on Dubs Success

Nobody is denying that Curry is great. The question becomes whether he and the Warriors can be great enough for him to win the MVP award again. The Warriors finished last season as the tenth seed in the West. They lost in the Play-In Tournament, making it only the third time the Warriors have missed the playoffs this decade.

While Curry averaged 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.5 rebounds while shooting over 40% from three last season, this wasn’t enough to push the Dubs toward a playoff run. Now, in his first season without his splash brother Klay Thompson, Curry and the Warriors will once again be facing an uphill battle to the playoffs.

The Warriors are currently projected to win 43.5 games. This number likely puts them right around where they finished last season. Part of the case for Curry returning to MVP glory would be if the Warriors could blow this win total out of the water. As always, the Warriors success hinges on Curry, but key contributions from players like Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green will also be essential.

Curry MVP Odds

The current 2024-25 NBA MVP odds are as follows:

Luka Doncic +330

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander +380

Nikola Jokic +450

Giannis Antetokounmpo +850

Anthony Edwards +850

Jayson Tatum +1300

Jalen Brunson +1300

Victor Wembanyama +2000

Ja Morant +3000

Joel Embiid +3400

Stephen Curry +4500

At +4500, Curry is a long shot to win his third MVP award. Even after being named to the All-NBA Third Team,  if Curry and the Warriors repeat their performance from last season, there is no chance for Curry to win the award. That being said, if Curry can get back to almost 30 points per game as he did in 2022-23, and the Warriors can win enough games to contend at the top of the Western Conference, he has a shot. Does Curry still have MVP magic in him? Yes. Does that mean he will put his regular season focus on winning another MVP? Unlikely.
