Can the Hornets really pull off a Jaylen Brown trade? A long‑shot trade idea actually makes more sense than you’d think.

Hornets Have Assets for Blockbuster Jaylen Brown Trade

A Jaylen Brown trade seems unlikely for the Charlotte Hornets, as Marc Stein has reported that the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Houston Rockets are among the teams interested in acquiring the five-time All-Star. However, this wouldn’t be the first time a star was moved in a deal nobody saw coming.

The Hornets are one of the few teams that could make a compelling offer to Boston, given the abundance of draft picks they hold and a good number of movable contracts. If Hornets GM Jeff Peterson wanted to make a win-now move, it’s hard to argue that Brown wouldn’t be a great addition to this roster.

Breaking Down the Trade Proposal

Charlotte Hornets receive: Jaylen Brown

Boston Celtics receive: Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, Josh Green, 2027 First-Round Pick (via Miami Heat)

The cost is steep for a superstar talent like Brown. Financially, Charlotte would have to move off multiple players to bring in Brown’s massive contract.

At one point, Miller was considered untouchable. He was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft behind Victor Wembanyama. And yet, with another offseason where Miller can’t work on his game and develop due to shoulder surgery, the Hornets must consider their options.

Brown is one of the few players who justifies moving off Miller. He is an elite two-way wing and was one of the best players in the league this past season.

Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 47.7/34.7/79.5 shooting splits. He would immediately step in as the best scorer on the Hornets and propel this team into the playoffs. LaMelo Ball would jump at the chance to add another high‑end scorer next to him who elevates the team and helps accelerate his own growth.

The trade idea consolidates the roster by also moving Bridges and Green, but in this scenario, Charlotte keeps both of their 2026 first-round picks. This way, there is a path to replace both of them in the rotation.

Morez Johnson Jr. has been frequently mocked to Charlotte and seems like a perfect fit to replace Bridges. The hope is that the Hornets can hit on their draft picks to offer immediate production, just as their 2025 draft class did.

Charlotte loses a future 2027 first-round pick from Miami, but that pick is lottery-protected anyway. Boston would receive immediate impact from Bridges and Green, along with Miller, who may fit better next to Jayson Tatum. The first-round pick is the cherry on top to add flexibility.

The Outlook: Could This Trade Actually Happen?

Based on Peterson’s comments on The Program with Adrian Wojnarowski, landing a star player isn’t out of the question. He spoke on the realities that executives must live with as part of a small market team, as well as how the new NBA lottery reform will affect the Hornets:

“It will make it more challenging for these smaller market teams to land star players, but at the same time, I don’t think it’s impossible. I know I’m always up for a good challenge, so we will continue to adapt and figure it out.”

Regarding acquiring a big piece to add to the roster, he isn’t afraid to pull the trigger. This is why the Domantas Sabonis trade rumors also have to be taken seriously. The Hornets are looking to upgrade the frontcourt, so Brown probably isn’t a priority.

While a Brown trade to Charlotte isn’t the likely outcome, there’s at least a path to one. There shouldn’t be an argument that adding an MVP candidate wouldn’t make this team better on paper.

The Hornets are well-equipped to make a great offer and take on that supermax contract. But the realistic outcome is that another team that feels they are one piece away will make the actual move.
