Caleb Wilson’s Strengths and Weaknesses
Wilson is a consensus top-5 NBA prospect in the Class of 2026. He projects to go anywhere from No. 3 to 7 in the draft, depending on who else enters the 2026 draft and which teams ultimately pick in those spots. Also, his performance at the NBA combine and individual workouts will go a long way toward determining his ultimate draft spot.
Wilson is a long, athletic two-way player who stands at 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot wingspan. He also moves like a deer and has an explosive vertical pop.
“Wilson’s combination of length, vertical athleticism, fluidity, and coordination put him in truly rare air among prospects all time,” Derek Parker of Sports Illustrated said in his evaluation.
Offensively, Wilson is a powerful straight-line driver with soft hands and is an excellent finisher at the rim — converting 72.3% of those attempts with 67 dunks — with the ability to absorb contact. He is at his best when he backs down his opponent, getting to shoulder-to-shoulder where he can use his toolbox: jump hooks, step-arounds, quick spins, floaters, and shot-jumpers.
Wilson, who averaged 1.6 points per shot with the Tar Heels, also thrives in the open court and getting to the foul line (7.5 attempts). Additionally, he is an outstanding cutter and offensive rebounder due to his quickness as a second jumper.
Wilson certainly has areas to work on on the offensive end. Wilson’s biggest areas for improvement are perimeter shooting, shot selection, and ball-handling. He made only 7 three-pointers this season on 27 attempts, which is just 9.2% of his shot attempts. Moreover, he struggles with shot selection, creating space, and settling for tough mid-range shots when crowded.
Wilson has the tools to be an elite defender in the NBA. His physical attributes will aid him considerably, as he can be a disruptor due to his physicality, length, and mobility. He can guard 1 through 4 and is an elite rim protector. He does have to work on his defensive technique, as he tends to get out of stance/completely standing up, and become aware of that area.
