The Portland Trail Blazers’ Future Continues To Be Promising

The Portland Trail Blazers’ future is promising with the current core. With Shaedon Sharpe‘s potential and Deni Avdija‘s breakout, this team is still improving. Moving forward, the Blazers could be a surprising team in the 2025-26 postseason picture.

The Portland Trail Blazers’ Future Continues To Be Promising

In January 2026, the Portland Trail Blazers have been one of the league’s best teams. While they lost to the Toronto Raptors on Friday, they were riding high. They have a 7-3 record over the past 10 games, which is a superb stretch for the Blazers.

Acting head coach Tiago Splitter has found the team’s groove with the roster. Avdija has been the reliable star player, while Sharpe is another fantastic talent. Moving forward, they appear to be the building blocks for the future.

It has been a long time since the Blazers have made the postseason. However, that is a definitive possibility this season with this current core. They are not at their healthiest, but the promise of a bright future is still there.

Avdija’s Breakout Into An All-Star Raises The Ceiling

During the Blazers’ most recent loss against the Raptors, it was evident that they needed Avdija. Sharpe and the rest of the team still had good performances, but they lacked Avdija’s dynamism.

Over the past few months, Avdija has truly proven that he is a star player. The Blazers have also embraced that, as he is the focal point of the system. Coach Splitter gives Avdija the freedom to have isolation plays, which often lead to a paint touch.

He is such an impactful player with his offensive production. His scoring is impressive because he is doing well at all three levels, but he is also a playmaker. Considering he played point guard for a few months, that has become a huge asset for Portland.

This season, Avdija could be the key to reaching the Playoffs. They are in the ninth seed, which means the Play-In Tournament is viable. However, given how they are playing recently, they could compete for the sixth seed. Avdija will be a crucial part of that due to his starring role in the Blazers’ future.

Sharpe’s Potential Is A Promising Development

While Avdija has been the star this season, that should not discount Sharpe’s contributions. He has also been a phenomenal player this season alongside Avdija’s breakout, albeit with a slow start. Nowadays, he is averaging 21.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

This has been a promising campaign so far for Sharpe. He was struggling with his efficiency, especially from the three-point line. Now, he is shooting 33.9% from beyond the arc, which is still a touch under the goal of 35%. However, that is already a great development since he was in the low 20s at some point.

With Sharpe’s scoring, the Blazers have a reliable second option who can serve as the go-to scorer at times. At the same time, Sharpe has also made marked improvements on the defensive side of the game. He is at his best when he is being disruptive in the passing lanes, which leads to fast breaks.

He is already the highest-scoring from the 2022 Draft Class, which is impressive considering that Paolo Banchero is also there. At only 22, Sharpe still has untapped potential. Sharpe signed a long-term contract with the Blazers, so opponents will be wary of his growth.

The Blazers’ Future Is In Good Hands

Apart from Sharpe’s potential and Avdija’s breakout, the Blazers are in good hands. Splitter is not the long-term head coach yet, but he has done well so far. Donovan Clingan‘s ascent to being the franchise center has been impressive.

Alongside the promising players, they also have reliable veterans in Jrue Holiday and Jerami Grant. They have a good mix of talented young players and experienced veterans. That could be the key to them reaching the Playoffs, as they have the potential to reach it.

The Blazers have a tough road ahead, but they have the tools to compete. It will be challenging, but with Avdija, Sharpe, and the rest of the team, they can surprise people.
