Celtics Champion Latest To Join NBA Player Podcasting World

NBA fans certainly have more than a handful of podcasts they they can listen to featuring current and former players. Some examples of those players include Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Jalen Brunson, Jeff Teague, and Gilbert Arenas, just to name a few. Another name has thrown his name into the hat. That player is 2024 NBA champion, Derrick White, current member of the Boston Celtics.

Derrick White Starts Podcast

Getting ready to enter his ninth NBA season, White’s new podcast debuted on Monday and is entitled White Noise. His co-host on the podcast is his good friend, Alex Welsh. The two were teammates at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs prior to White transferring after his junior year to Colorado. The first episode talked about when White was traded to the Celtics, playing Division II basketball, and how the offseason has been going.

On Apple Podcasts, the description of the podcast is as follows:

“Go inside the life and mind of NBA Champion Derrick White as he sits down with close friend Alex Welsh for unfiltered conversations about his journey from D2 underdog to Boston Celtics star. They break down wild practice stories, pivotal career moments, off-season routines, and life beyond basketball—including travel, teammates, and what it’s really like getting traded mid-season. Whether you’re a hoops fan or just here for the vibes, this is Derrick like you’ve never heard him.”

While Welsh never made it to the NBA, he did spend a couple years playing overseas in Switzerland. Apparently the two have remained close friends despite not being teammates for about a decade.

Successful Playing Career

Now 31 years old, White’s successes in basketball weren’t expected. The 6-foot-4 guard had to settle for playing collegiately at a Division II school. He wasn’t highly-sought after during his high school career. He showed vast improvement, to the point where he was selected in the first round (29th overall) in the 2017 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

It was at the 2022 trade deadline when the Celtics acquired White. Boston gave San Antonio Romeo Langford, Josh Richardson, and two first round picks. The trade paid immediate dividends for Boston. White made the All-Defensive second team in each of his first two full seasons for them. Of course, it was his second full season where he played a large role for the Celtics in what resulted in a championship.

The expectations have changed for Boston this upcoming season. Superstar forward Jayson Tatum is expected to miss the year with a torn Achilles suffered in the 2025 playoffs. Both Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday have been traded off. Al Horford remains a free agent, but isn’t expected to re-sign. It will be interesting to hear White’s thoughts on the expectations surrounding the 2025-26 season for the Celtics.
