Clippers All-Star Sets Eyes On Saturday Season Debut

Kawhi Leonard’s debut may be just around the corner.  Kawhi’s injury has kept him out since April of 2024, and his return to action is much anticipated by Clippers and NBA fans alike. He has been ramping up his on-court activities in preparation for his return. Over the past weeks, he participated in full-contact 5-on-5 scrimmages with the Clippers and their G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers. Leonard’s return looks to finally be here, and Clippers fans can rejoice.

Clippers All-Star Sets Eyes On Saturday Season Debut

Kawhi Leonard’s Return Is Here

The Clippers upgraded Leonard’s status to “questionable” for Saturday’s game, letting fans know that his return may finally be here. Leonard is expected to be on a minutes restriction as a precautionary measure. That makes sense, given that he has not played in an NBA game in eight months and has a long history of injuries.

The Clippers have performed well without Leonard this season. They are currently the seventh seed in a competitive Western Conference with a record of 19-15. James Harden and Norman Powell have led the Clippers without Leonard, and their success so far has been somewhat surprising. Harden has led the Clippers offense with his playmaking, while Powell has emerged as the team’s leading scorer.

Because the Clippers have played better than expected, there is added pressure on Leonard’s debut. The Clippers could become proper contenders if Kawhi is able to return to his previous form.

Kawhi Has A Lengthy Injury History

Leonard’s career has been defined by his greatness when healthy, juxtaposed with constant injury issues. In the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 68 games, his highest total since 2016-17, averaging 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He also shot incredibly efficiently, shooting 52.5% from the field and 41.7% from three. Despite this, knee inflammation forced him to miss the final stretch of the regular season and most of the playoffs. That has been ann ending that has become quite common in the latter half of Leonard’s career.

Leonard’s injury history is well-documented. He missed the entire 2021-22 season due to a torn ACL and was sidelined during key playoff moments in other seasons. Over the past eight years, he has missed 290 regular-season games.

The Kawhi Return Looks To Be Coming On Saturday

If Kawhi’s return does come Saturday, the matchup against the Hawks will be more than just another game. Even on a minutes restriction, Kawhi is often able to impact a game on both ends of the floor. The Clippers are hoping that Saturday’s game is just the start of a big turning point in their season.

Adding Leonard to the Clippers’ already successful system could be a game-changer in the Western Conference. Nobody was expecting the Clippers to be competing at the level they currently are. Powell has come out as an elite scorer, and Harden is still playing at a near All-Star level. Kawhi Leonard’s debut could mark the start of another level for the Clippers. Let’s just hope he can remain on the court for a considerable amount of time.
