Reggie Jackson Re-signs With The Los Angeles Clippers

Reggie Jackson played a huge role in the Los Angeles Clippers’ conference finals run. Going into the offseason, signing Jackson was on the top of the Clippers’ priority list. Today he agreed to return to Los Angeles. The two sides agreed on a two-year contract worth $22 million, or $11 million per season. This contract ties him down through the 2022-2023 season. After playing last year on a veteran’s minimum contract, now he has been rewarded for his production.

Reggie Jackson Re-signs with the Los Angeles Clippers

Over his ten-year NBA career, Jackson has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, and the Clippers. He has put up 12.6  points and 4.2 rebounds per game for his career. He was originally drafted in the first round, 24th overall in the 2011 NBA draft by the Thunder. Last season he scored 10.7 points and 3.1 assists for the Clippers.

Since acquiring Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers have struggled to find a quality point guard. They acquired Jackson in 2019-2020 and he mostly saw minutes off the bench.

Jackson started 43 of the 67 games he played this season and he really came along this postseason. Throughout the playoffs, he averaged 17.8 points and shot 48.4% from the field, including 40.8% from behind the arc. He put up huge performance after huge performance, especially in the Utah series when he scored 27 points in Game 7 to close out the Jazz.

What this means for the Future

Reggie Jackson proved he can be a reliable solution for the Clippers at the point guard spot. He’ll likely be the full-time starter for the Clippers next year. Leonard still remains unsigned, but if he returns, he’ll likely be out for the 2021-22 season. Look for Jackson to have an even bigger role with Leonard out. After having a very good showing in the playoffs, he’ll be featured more in the offense. Alongside Paul George, he could very well be the second option.
