Kevin Huerter Expected to Miss Two to Three Weeks with Injury

Kevin Huerter Injury

According to Last Word on Sports sources, “Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Kevin Huerter is expected to miss two to three weeks with a rotator cuff contusion with shoulder subluxation”. This injury will require him to rehab for the next few weeks before being re-evaluated afterword. The trainers will then decide whether he may return or not.

No official statement has been given by Hawks’ team officials as of yet but sources have revealed to Last Word on Sports that Huerter was sent home from the team’s current road trip to discuss his MRI with team doctors.

Kevin Huerter Expected to Miss Extended Time with Shoulder Injury

Prior to the NBA, Huerter had a very successful career at the University of Maryland. For his efforts in his sophomore campaign, he was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks selected Huerter with the 19th overall pick. In his rookie year, Huerter showed he could be a reliable player in the NBA. On the year, he averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while contributing on the defensive end. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

This injury to Huerter deals a significant blow to an Atlanta Hawks team that is looking to get back on track after a slow start to the season. Huerter has posted solid numbers in sophomore season and has been consistent shooting the ball. On the season Huerter is averaging just under ten points per game, providing steady scoring for Atlanta. He is also averaging 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists respectively. The loss of Huerter will impact the Hawks on the defensive side of the ball as well. In his short NBA career, Huerter has shown incredible instincts defensively.

While the injury to Huerter isn’t expected to keep him out long term, it is something to keep an eye on. Huerter is a player who’s impact does not always show up in the box score. He is a true team player who plays defense just as well as anyone on that team. The Hawks will definitely miss his impact over the next couple of weeks before Huerter is re-evaluated.
