Report: Paul George Agrees to Re-Sign With Oklahoma City Thunder

All-Star free agent Paul George agrees to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, despite much speculation that he wanted to play for the Lakers.

According to reports, the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to re-sign unrestricted free agent small forward Paul George. His new deal will be worth a maximum $137 million over four years. The contract cannot officially be signed until the end of the NBA’s moratorium period on July 7th.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the news on Saturday night.

Report: Paul George Agrees to Re-Sign with Oklahoma City Thunder

George’s contract will take him through the 2021-22 season. He has a player option for the final year, according to Wojnarowski, so George can become a free agent again in 2021.

Paul George finished this past season with a line of 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists for the Oklahoma City Thunder. One of the leagues premier players, George showed his versatility on both sides of the ball. He averaged 2.0 steals on the defensive end while shooting a hot 40 percent from three-point range. One of the upper echelon two-way players in the league George is a force. The Thunder were one of the leagues most up and down teams this year. While combining the star power of George, Russell Westbrook, and Carmelo Anthony, they never seemed to quite mesh together. Chemistry, egos, and injuries ultimately were the demise of the Thunder getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

Looking forward, George will provide elite level scoring and defense as a wing player in Oklahoma City. His ability to adapt to most offenses and learn on the fly will come in handy as George looks to make his stamp on the upcoming season. The Thunder will need George to be at his best in order to contend for an NBA championship.

George is going into his 9th Season in the league at the age of 28. Up until now, he has only played for the Indiana Pacers and the Thunder, after being drafted by Indiana 10th overall in 2010.
