Report: George Hill Agrees to Contract With Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to sign unrestricted free agent point guard George Hill, to a contract worth $57 million over three years. The contract cannot be officially signed until the end of the NBA’s moratorium period on July 6th.

Shams Charania of The Vertical broke the news on Tuesday afternoon:

George Hill Agrees to Three-Year Contract With Sacramento Kings

Hill’s contract will take him through the end of the 2019-20 season.

The former Pacer was traded to the Utah Jazz back in July 2016, as part of a three team trade; also involving the Atlanta Hawks. Hill missed games last season with a sprained toe, featuring in just 49 games for the Jazz during the 2016-17 season. Hill averaged 16.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game last season, all of which were above his career average. An offensive threat, Hill is an established shooter from both mid and three-point range. Shooting a stellar 47.7% from the floor last season, Hill also averaged 40.3% from beyond the arc. Hill can provide a scoring boost for the Kings, who were in need of a point guard following Darren Collison‘s departure for Indiana.

Hill will provide a veteran presence in Sacramento and offers leadership both on and off the court. Entering his 9th year in the NBA, Hill has been mostly consistent throughout his career. Hill will turn 32 years old this season but his overall game has shown few signs of regressing with age. Improving in several areas last season, Hill increased his field goal percentage, points per game and assists per game; all of which were up on his 2015-16 stat line.

Looking forward, Hill will certainly provide stability as a starting point guard in Sacramento and could help the rebuilding Kings take a step forward this coming season. He will likely serve as a mentor for De’Aaron Fox, the speedy point guard from Kentucky whom the Kings selected fifth overall in this year’s draft.
