Georgetown University has hired Patrick Ewing to be the new coach of its men’s basketball team, according to The Vertical‘s Adrian Wojnarowski:

Georgetown Hires Patrick Ewing as Head Coach
Georgetown’s previous head coach, John Thompson III, was fired on March 23, 2017. He led the school’s basketball program for 13 years.
Ewing will begin his new head coaching duties immediately. He had previously been an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets, where head coach Steve Clifford had high praise for him. Clifford pushed Ewing to take the Georgetown job, per Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski later reported that Ewing is already chasing high-level assistant coaches to add to his new staff at Georgetown.
Jeff Van Gundy, Ewing’s former coach when he played for the New York Knicks, had this to say about Ewing: “Pat’s personality has been misunderstood for so long that I can’t get wait for him to show the masses his humor and intelligence and his core values when it comes to leadership.”
Ewing starred for the Hoyas for four years, from 1981 through 1985. He went on to be selected number one overall in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Knicks. Ewing played 15 seasons in New York, making 11 All-Star teams and reaching the NBA Finals twice. He also played one season each for the Seattle Supersonics and Orlando Magic.
Since the end of his playing career back in 2002, Ewing has been an assistant coach for the Hornets and Magic.
