Jose Calderon Out 2-4 Weeks

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jose Calderon is set to miss at least 2 weeks with a hamstring strain picked up during Saturday's 103-100 loss to Memphis.

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jose Calderon is set to miss at least two weeks with a right hamstring strain.

Jose Calderon Out 2-4 Weeks

Calderon, 35, sustained the hamstring injury during Saturday’s 100-103 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. After regular starting point guard D’Angelo Russell went down with a knee injury, Calderon stepped in. It’s fair to say Calderon has done a solid job, in Russell’s absence. In 14 games, Calderon has averaged 4.7 points, 2.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds. With Calderon out, Marcelo Huertas looks set to start. Lakers fans should also expect to see Jordan Clarkson playing the point more than usual.

The Lakers have major injury problems, with Russell (knee), Nick Young (calf) and Larry Nance Jr. (knee) already sidelined. Head coach Luke Walton has dealt with these injuries well so far, with the Lakers currently holding a 10-12 record on the season. But with the Lakers already down to their third string point guard, just 22 games into the season, it’s fair to say the team may struggle in the near future.

The Lakers are not expected to make any roster moves in response to Calderon’s injury. Russell is expected back later this week, baring any setbacks.

The Lakers next game is against the Utah Jazz on Monday.
