After rumors that Joe Mauer would be retiring, the Minnesota Twins veteran has announced that he will be retiring from MLB after 15 years.

Mauer’s Career
Drafted with the first overall pick of the 2003 MLB Draft, Mauer would come into the major leagues in the 2004 season. He would have his first full season with the Twins in 2005, playing in 131 games with a .294 batting average. His 2006 season would see his stardom rise to new heights as he was named an All-Star for the first time that year and won his first Silver Slugger. His 2007 season wasn’t as successful from an awards standpoint, but he still had a .293 batting average with 60 RBI. During the 2008 season, Mauer hit a .328 batting average and had another All-Star nod. He also won his first Gold Glove and another Silver Slugger.
His 2009 season, he made history by becoming the only catcher to win an MVP Award. He would also get named to his third All-Star Game, and win his second Gold Glove and third Silver Slugger. His statistics were mind-blowing as he hit .365 batting average and a career-best 28 homeruns. During the 2010 season, Mauer would win another Gold Glove and Silver Slugger. He would also be named to another All-Star game. In total, Mauer was a six-time All-Star, a three-time Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger, winner and he has won the AL batting title three separate times.

Joe Mauer will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the Twins. The hometown kid from St. Paul is one of the greatest catchers to play the game and was great even after his transition to first base.
