In baseball, the last month often becomes the most critical month for teams and hitters. Certain players, especially Pete Alonso, could use a strong end to their season this September.
One Hitter To Watch In September
Pete Alonso Will End 2024 With A Bang
Historically, Pete Alonso does not end his seasons with a slump. Despite having multiple months of disappointment and underperformance, September will become the month when Alonso proves himself to be a fantastic hitter. So far in his career, Pete Alonso’s full seasons (Covid-19) have seen him hit 53, 37, 40, and 46 home runs. This season, Alonso is on pace for a career-low 35 home runs but has done well since the All-Star Break. With ten home runs since the all-star break, Alonso is starting to get a lot better at the plate and has continuously kept his average at .244.
In April, Alonso hit seven home runs, and in August thus far, Alonso has hit seven home runs, both of which are tied for being the best months of Alonso’s year. Alonso, however, has been able to go into tears, which have seen him hit 10, 11, and 10 home runs in a month. Alonso’s ability to do this is still there. Alonso usually has had at least one month in which he is one of the hottest hitters in the league.
The Mets Need A Better Hitter In Alonso
Alonso has led the team in RBIs, home runs, and XBHs for a while now. However, Francisco Lindor has challenged him in every category this season. Of course, there are no complaints from the New York Mets about Lindor’s best season yet in Queens, but this is also because Pete Alonso has underperformed.
“Underperformed” is hard to say when a play is on pace for a 35-homer season, but Pete Alonso is the lifeline of the Mets. New York needs Pete Alonso to join Francisco Lindor in carrying the team into October. Alonso homered twice in the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, in both games in which the Mets won. In one of the games, Lindor homered as well, which helped the Mets to a clutch win when the Mets needed one. Alonso and Lindor have been the most dynamic duo in the league over the past few years, and Alonso going on a tear would be lovely for the team.
Alonso is capable of insane things. His ability to stay healthy, play consistently, and hit home runs every year makes him very valuable. The Mets need him not to play for free agency but for October.
Overall, Alonso has become the most consistent hitter in the league since his debut. He needs to have a monster, September, to prove himself. The Mets need to reach the postseason, and so does he.
