At 49-83, the Colorado Rockies are ten wins away from tying their 2023 regular season record of a franchise-low 59-103. For the most part, this season has been disastrous. There needs to be a clear answer as to whether this team will repeat these woes next year. Colorado has introduced a few new prospects into the lineup this season, giving them their first glimpse of major league action. The Rockies hope these young prospects will be the future cornerstones of this rebuilding franchise.
As we head toward the final month of the season, this team needs to promote some of their younger guys once again to give them the experience they need to advance their careers. That time in the Majors could give these prospects a slither of what they need to work on to be great and stay on this team for the long haul.
Prospects the Rockies Should Consider Calling Up in September
Chase Dollander
The Rockies selected Chase Dollander with the ninth pick of the 2023 MLB Draft. Since the start of this, the Dollander got promoted twice. The right-hander started in 14 games for the Single-A Spokane Indians and finished with a 4-1 record through 70 innings. Then, he went to Double-A, where he now plays for the Hartford Yard Goats. Dollander has a 1-0 record through 30 innings in six starts with a 1.69 ERA. The Rockies prospect pitcher has struck out 149 batters with these two teams. It would be a big jump for Dollander, but fans would certainly be intrigued to see him as a starter one night for the Rockies. The month in the majors would give Dollander the experience he’ll need to thrive in 2025.
Adael Amador
Second baseman Adael Amador is one prospect who’s gotten a preview of what it’s like in the Major League. Although Amador only played ten games with Colorado from June 9th to 20th, he recorded six hits during that span. With the Hartford Yard Goats, the Rockies infield prospect has 70 hits through 84 games with 12 home runs, 31 stolen bases, and 43 RBI. He has a stat line of .219/.339/.364. Amador will be a Rockies cornerstone. He should get another shot in the majors during the regular season’s final month. If promoted for a second time, the Rockies prospect has the experience to boost his game. He also would have the chance to stick his name in the Rockies lineup full-time.
Yanquiel Fernandez
Yanquiel Fernandez has put up 106 hits, ten home runs, and 55 runs batted in through 106 games between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque. In 17 games with the Isotopes, Fernandez has 17 hits and nine runs batted in. While he wouldn’t make a defining impact for the Rockies in the season’s final month, he could certainly learn a thing or two about the game at the highest level. It could give Fernandez the experience he needs to perform at the highest level in Triple-A next season. If he does, this gives the Rockies hope to bring their outfield prospect into the lineup quicker than expected.
