The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated Mookie Betts from the Injured List ahead of tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. Betts suffered a broken hand when a pitch hit him on June 16 against the Kansas City Royals. When the All-Star returns to the diamond, he will be roaming right field, where he has won six gold gloves.
Dodgers Activate Mookie Betts
To make room on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles has designated Amed Rosario for assignment. This is a somewhat surprising move, given that the former Tampa Bay Ray is a versatile fielder and can provide a much-needed punch off the bench. The Dodgers acquired Rosario from the Rays at the Trade Deadline in exchange for minor league pitcher Michael Flynn. The Dodgers are very familiar with Rosario, as they also traded for him in 2023.
Although Rosario only had 12 at-bats with Los Angeles in his second go-round, he has been very productive, with a batting average of just over .3oo in two seasons. The Dodgers may be putting a premium on defense as they look toward the postseason. With Betts going to right field on his return instead of shortstop, they prefer Nick Ahmed and Enrique Hernandez superior defense over more reliable offense.
The Swiss Army Knife Of Baseball?
The Dodgers are familiar with Enrique Hernandez. He has played every position on the field except catcher. Hernandez is known for his steady glove and streaky stick. Although he has struggled offensively this year, he seems to thrive under the bright lights. He came through a game-tying double against the Pittsburg Pirates in extra innings Sunday to propel the Dodgers to a sweep.
A Landing Spot For Rosario?
There is a myriad of teams in the playoff push that would covet Amed Rosario. The question is not if he will be claimed off waivers but when…and by who?
