Dodgers Activate Hard-Throwing Reliever from IL

According to SportsNet LA’s David Vassegh, the Los Angeles Dodgers have activated Brusdar Graterol from the 6o-day injured list. In a corresponding move, Los Angeles has placed reliever Blake Treinen on the 15-day IL with hip discomfort.

Dodgers Activate Brusdar Graterol from IL

Swing and Miss Arsenal

Graterol, who has been out since spring training with a bad shoulder, will be a welcome addition to a bullpen with weary arms.  The Dodgers relievers have pitched more innings than any other team in baseball. The right-hander was originally scheduled to come off the IL in late April or early May, but had recurring shoulder inflammation. He made eight rehab appearances before joining the major league club.

The right-hander was a part of the trade that sent Kenta Maeda to the Minnesota Twins. In his time in LA, Graterol has sported a 2.08 ERA. His ERA is even lower during the postseason, at 1.72 over 21 appearances. This illustrates the overpowering stuff the reliever possesses, and why the Dodgers are so eager to have him primed and ready for the stretch run and the playoffs. Only 25 years old, Graterol is under team control until the end of 2026.

Out of Gas?

Treinen, who had been a reliable arm at the beginning of the season, has shown some wear and tear in recent outings. In his first 14 appearances, he had a perfect 0.00 Earned Run Average. Over his last 19 appearances, his ERA is over 5.00.

Is the Cavalry Coming?

The IL swap was the second roster adjustment by Los Angeles today. They activated Freddie Freeman from the family emergency list and designated Cavan Biggio for assignment. These moves open up two spots on the 40-man roster. Mookie Betts, Michael Grove, and Miguel Rojas are also due to rejoin the team soon. Undoubtedly, the Dodgers have some difficult decisions ahead of them, but they will never complain about depth.
