The New York Mets made the widely expected move official on Wednesday with the recall of right-hander Christian Scott from Triple-A. Scott will start tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals in place of Tylor Megill, whom New York demoted following his short start on Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the Mets designated reliever Matt Festa for assignment. The Brooklyn-born pitcher latched on with the organization on a minor league deal in late May. However, he struggled in his lone appearance with the big league squad.
New York Mets Recall Christian Scott
Scott, 25, made five starts in the majors earlier this year before the team optioned him to manage his workload. Across those outings, the rookie tossed 27 2/3 innings with around league-average results. He produced a 3.90 ERA (99 ERA+) with 25 strikeouts and six walks.
MLB Pipeline currently ranks Scott as New York’s second-best prospect and the 39th-best in the entire league. Gaudy command and improved helped his stock skyrocket over the past calendar year. The organization views him as a developmental win due to his meteoric rise internally and in the views of external evaluators.

The Mets will recall Scott early in 17 games in 17 days. New York’s pitching staff has been tested mightily over the past week or so with injuries, suspensions, and underperformance. Scott will have a chance to firmly establish himself in the majors and prove he belongs in the rotation for the rest of the season.
Matt Festa
Festa, 31, pitched well in Triple-A after signing with the Mets on May 20. In 15 1/3 innings, he posted a 1.76 ERA with great strikeout and walk rates. The former Seattle Mariner dealt with a few injuries over the past few seasons, but he seemed to be fully recovered with his great performance in Syracuse.
Unfortunately, the Mets designated him after he allowed five runs on four hits in just one inning of work.
