Trade Packages For This White Sox Pitcher

The trade deadline is slowly approaching, and people all over baseball are trying to figure out who will be traded and what they will be traded for. The Chicago White Sox have issued an edict to the league. They are open to business and willing to trade almost any player for something that works in return.

Trade Packages For This White Sox Pitcher

It’s been said that they are shopping the likes of Luis Robert, Jr., Michael Kopech, and the player we are about to talk about, left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet.

The White Sox have a gem in Crochet. He is one of the best pitchers in baseball and is someone the White Sox rely on to get wins. Unfortunately, Crochet hasn’t gotten the support from the White Sox offense to get him even more wins, which he should have. His play has made him a very attractive trade piece for the White Sox, and they are looking for someone to take him off their hands.

For a price.

Who Is Interested?

Most of any team would be interested in the talented lefty. He has proven that he’s a solid pitcher who can strike batters out consistently. One thing he hasn’t proven yet is how long he can go in a season as a starting pitcher. He was a reliever before this season and pitched in more innings than in a single season. The White Sox might have to cut back on his innings to get him to make it through the season.

Will this deter some teams from wanting him?

Some teams have to be interested in this budding young star. Who are they? What might they give up getting a guy like Crochet?

New York Yankees

The Yankees seem interested in almost anyone who is a star on another team as they try to build a World Series winner. The nice thing about the Yankees is that they have the capital, both monetarily and in players, to give the White Sox a good deal. The Sox should be able to get something decent out of New York. Just what can they get?

In looking at the Yankees farm system, there are several exciting prospects. The White Sox might want to trade one pitcher, in Crochet, for several pitching prospects. Knowing the Yankees, they are going to be a little tight with the purse strings and aren’t going to let a lot go in a trade. So, the Sox might want to play it cool and take some prospects requiring more development. Guys like Everson Pereirar, an outfielder, and right-handed pitcher Will Warren could be of interest.

One would think that the White Sox could get a third or a fourth prospect, but the Yankees are hard to draw talent from. The White Sox would have to play their cards right to get something good out of New York.

San Diego Padres

There appears to be somewhat of a Chicago-to-San Diego connection going on. San Diego is where the White Sox traded Dylan Cease and ended up with several good prospects. Maybe the Padres would want to invoke another trade with the White Sox, this time for Crochet. It would be interesting to see what the Sox could get in return?

Pitchers seem to be growing well in the San Diego system so perhaps a small handful of pitching prospects with a position player thrown in might be the way the Sox want to go in a trade with the Padres. Three guys that could be of interest include pitcher Ryan Bergert, outfielder Tirso Ornelas, and another pitcher, Jackson Wolf. All three need some work and further development, but the White Sox would have three solid prospects that could end up in the majors in the next year or two.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants are a team that always seems to need something and pitching would be a great thing for them to work on. Crochet could be a guy to help them out in that area. However, they might have to give up a bit to get him.

The Giants farm system is ranked lower than most. There are still a few prospects that could be had should the White Sox trade Crochet to them. Two prospects stick out when it comes to the Giants farm system. They include left-handed pitcher Carson Wisenhunt and outfielder Raynar Arias. These guys rank among the top prospects in the San Francisco system. They should be guys that the White Sox target should they reach a trade agreement for Crochet. Arias, in particular, is an interesting outfield prospect that could help bolster the White Sox batting prospect group.

Some say that the White Sox shouldn’t trade away Crochet. They feel that he could be someone that they build the team of the future around. But, if the White Sox do trade him, they need to get the maximum return for him. They may already be asking too much but if they tone down their asking price a bit and be wary, they should be able to get good players in return for his services.
