Romano Injury & Blue Jays Struggles

Romano is set to meet with Dr. Meister. Spencer Strider used the same doctor to analyze his injury and discuss his action plan regarding this setback. On June 1st, Romano went on the 15-day IL because of right elbow inflammation. Two days later, he was given an injection in his pitching elbow. It was similar to the one he got during Spring Training before going on the IL before the 2024 season started. It’s continuing to look like a nightmare for the Blue Jays this season. They have been unable to figure things out consistently and got blown out by the New York Yankees on June 28th by a score of 16-5. This also hurts the Blue Jays, placing a trade chip in an unfavorable position.

The injury train continues this season as pitchers are taking a brutal hit by injuries, and it isn’t doing their clubhouses any favors. Aside from Gold Glove winner Jose Berrios and Yimi Garcia, Blue Jays pitching this season has been way under par. Unfortunately, Garcia is on the IL as well. Garcia is also experiencing an elbow injury. Elbow injuries have been the most famous injury for pitchers this season. Blue Jays pitching has given up an astronomical amount of home runs. Blue Jays took matters into their own hands and DFA’d struggling pitcher Tim Mayza, sporting an 8.03 ERA. They called up pitcher Jose Cuas from Triple-A. We are still waiting to hear more news regarding Romano’s injury, but it looks bad. It wouldn’t be surprising if Romano had to undergo Tommy John. It’s an unfortunate downfall for the 31-year-old who was coming off of a 2.90 ERA last season.
