Rockies Utility Player Looks Sharp Since Returning From Triple-A

Colorado Rockies utility player Michael Toglia was demoted to Triple-A in late April. With Kris Bryant and Sean Bouchard heading to the IL, the Rockies called up Toglia on Thursday before the team’s first game of a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals. The utility man has been solid during the past three games since he’s been back with the team. Before he was demoted, he led the Rockies with four home runs. However, through 47 at-bats, Toglia recorded a horrendous .106 batting average. If the 25-year-old can continue his success at the plate, then he may secure himself a spot on the 40-man roster for the rest of the regular season. It’s all about Toglia proving his worth once more. The Rockies desperately need to pick up another win streak, and Toglia could play a big part in helping Colorado win games.

Rockies Utility Player Michael Toglia Looks Sharp After Return From Triple-A

The 25-year-old utility player has played in all three of the Rockies’ games against the Cardinals. During this series, Toglia’s gone 4-for-11 at the plate. He went one for three with a run batted in during the first matchup. Then, in the Rockies’ 8-5 loss on Friday night, he went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. In this game, during the top of the fourth inning, Toglia a Little League grand slam, tying the game up at four runs apiece, until the Cardinals blew the game open during the bottom of the eighth inning. Finally, Toglia recorded one hit in four at-bats during the Rockies 6-5 win last night. His play has certainly improved since April. At one point, the 25-year-old led Colorado with four home runs, but now he ranks fifth on the team in that category.

Toglia still has a long way to go if he wants to turn this season around. Through 58 at-bats, he has just nine hits. Although he has four home runs and 12 runs batted in, he has struck out 23 times. He has a .155 batting average and an on-base percentage of .188. The 25-year-old will look to have another solid performance during the last game of the Rockies’ four-game series with the Cardinals. Also, he’ll expect to play his best during the team’s next few series. Toglia has been determined to make it back to the majors and be successful.

The Rockies Need To Produce More Runs

One key for the Rockies if they want to continue to win games is to score a boatload of runs. This will take some stress off the shoulders of their starters. Toglia must be consistent, and be a key part of Colorado’s success. He’ll look to show the Rockies promoting him back to the team wasn’t a mistake. They are currently 6 1/2 games behind the fourth-place Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West. Toglia has the capabilities to be a big-time player for the Rockies. He just needs to put it all together while being confident and focused to help this team win at any cost.
