There hasn’t been a lot of good news for the Milwaukee Brewers when it comes to injuries this season.
Friday, though, was a different story as first baseman Rhys Hoskins was set to come off the injured list and return to the starting lineup for the Brewers series-opener against the Chicago White Sox at American Family Field.
Brewers Rhys Hoskins Set To Return From IL
Hoskins has been out since May 14 when he strained his left hamstring running to first in the second inning of an 8-6 loss to the Pirates. He was expected to miss 2-4 weeks and not only returned on the short end of that estimate, was able to do so without having to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

“He’s one of our pillars,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “He’s huge, just because of who he is. It’s not just because the experience and the ability, it’s just who he is. I’m happy for him. He was miserable not contributing.”
Hoskins was just starting to find his groove at the time of the injury. He went into that game batting .233 with nine homers, 27 RBI, and an .814 OPS and had homered three times in his previous five games, including a three-run, seventh-inning blast on May 11 that gave Milwaukee a 5-3 comeback victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
“Obviously, it helps us (getting Hoskins back),” Murphy said. “It’s another right-handed bat, a power bat and he’s a good at-bat. It’s not a hit-or-miss type of thing, he puts together a quality at-bat and the league knows it. He lengthens the lineup.

Hoskins Will Soon Face His Former Team
Hoskins’ return means he’ll be with the Brewers when they travel Monday to face Hoskins’ previous team, the Phillies. He spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia before missing all of 2023 after suffering an ACL injury during Spring Training. With the Phillies opting to move Bryce Harper to first base, Hoskins became a free agent and ultimately signed a two-year, $34 million contract a few weeks before camp opened.
“I thought he (would be) a great addition,” Murphy said. “I didn’t know how great, but it’s been even better than I thought.
“I love having him around. I love having him around the guys and how he competes. He’s special.”
To make room on the roster for Hoskins, Milwaukee optioned Owen Miller to Triple-A Nashville.
