Phillies Infielder is Creating Runs Early This Season

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm is elevating his game in 2024 by creating runs at the plate, and has helped the team tremendously in the process. In his last seven games, Bohm has a .536/.581/.964 line with two home runs and 10 RBI. Additionally, he has 15 hits and six runs scored during that seven-game span.

So far this season, Bohm has a .333/.423/.556 line with three home runs and 21 RBI in 26 games. He also has 30 hits and 11 runs scored. Bohm has a 177 OPS+ as of Thursday along with a 170 wRC+. Bohm also has a 1.2 oWAR this season and has a six RAA and a nine RAR. It also helps that Bohm has a 13.5% walk rate this season. During his career, he has not yet had a full season with a 10% walk rate or better.

Alec Bohm Creating Runs for Phillies

Bohm is currently on track to have 131 RBI this season. So far, his highest career RBI total in a season was 97 in 2023. Bohm is also on track to have 187 hits, which would be a career-best, and to score 69 runs. He is also on pace for 312 total bases this season, which would also be a career-best. Another area where Bohm is on pace to set a new career-best is doubles. Currently, he has nine doubles this season and is on pace for 56. 2023 saw Bohm hit 31 doubles, his current career best. If Bohm can continue to have this level of success, he should at least be an All-Star and possibly receive MVP votes.

Between Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s losses against the Cincinnati Reds, the Phillies scored a total of five runs. Bohm drove in three of those runs. While players like Nick Castellanos, J.T. Realmuto, and Kyle Schwarber have struggled at the plate recently, Bohm has stepped up. It is also worth noting that the Phillies were without Bryce Harper due to paternity leave for both of those games against the Reds. Kody Clemens hit a three-run home run and got another hit in his one appearance while filling in on the 26-man roster for Harper. In the Phillies’ last seven games, Bohm’s two home runs and 10 RBI lead the team. Harper has five RBI in that stretch, which ranks second on the Phillies.

 Other Phillies Playing Well

Other Phillies besides Bohm have had success recently at the plate. In his last seven games, Trea Turner has a .355/.394/.452 line with no home runs and three RBI. During that stretch, Turner has 11 hits, which ranks second behind Bohm. Furthermore, Turner leads the Phillies in runs scored during that span with eight. So far this season in 26 games, the shortstop has a .336/.388/.477 line with two home runs and nine RBI. He has six stolen bases as well as 36 hits, 20 runs scored, and eight walks in 2024. Turner has a 136 OPS+ heading into April 25, and a 143 wRC+. For the season, Turner leads the Phillies in hits with 36 and Bohm ranks second with 30.

Another player starting to succeed at the plate is Johan Rojas. In his last seven games, he has a .348/.375/.435 line with no home runs and two RBI. Rojas leads the Phillies with three stolen bases in that span as well. In 22 games so far, he has a .250/.311/.309 line with no home runs and three RBI. He has added in seven steals in the early going. Rojas has five walks this season, which matches his 2023 total. While Rojas had a below-average 86 OPS+ heading into Thursday, and has a below-average 78 wRC+ for the season, he has stepped up in recent games. His strikeout rate is only 14.7% this season, which is an improvement from a 25.6% strikeout rate last season.
