Davis Schneider‘s nickname sticks as he impresses MLB as a young, lethal hitter at the plate with two home runs in three games this season. Davis, aka Babe Schneider, stayed calm at the plate in Tuesday evening’s game against the Houston Astros and just hit it—and hit it well and out of the ballpark. Schneider is, without a doubt, one of the most pleasant surprises the Blue Jays have been grateful to have on their roster. Thankfully, Schneider has been able to start in two games this season.

Fans are excited, and teammate Ernie Clement also refers to his teammate as unbelievable. Schneider is very comfortable against southpaws. Now, with two home runs and four RBIs so far this season. Debuts for Schneider seem to be his bread and butter, as Schneider made a memorable MLB debut last season. There’s nothing like a game-winning home run against the Houston Astros; being the hero has to feel good for the 25-year-old. Last season, Brandon Belt spoke highly of him and was the first to call him “Babe Schneider.” The Blue Jays got exactly what they wanted out of Schneider. It was a great swing out of a pitch that he was more than capable of handling. Schneider is known for being very calm for such a young player, which has, without question, worked in his favor.
He doesn’t try to force anything, and after the Blue Jays faced a no-hitter against Ronel Blanco, they needed to put that behind them and move forward. Certainly, Schneider helped with that. Schneider continues to be that player at the plate that is a threat. This is why Schneider deserves as much playing time as he can get. He has picked up right where he left off last season and is becoming an OPS king. He has now increased his OPS to 1400. As well, eight of his ten home runs have come against lefties. He doesn’t try to overdo things and is becoming clutch in his young career. He has a slugging percentage of over .900 when the Blue Jays are trailing.
The Blue Jays Secret Weapon
It’s safe to say that the Blue Jays’ secret weapon is Schneider. He is the little engine that certainly can make noise at the plate. Schneider has silenced critics and haters who made their fair share of remarks across social media when Schneider was called up for the Blue Jays last season. Baseball can be full of surprises, and Schneider fits the saying that “big things come in small packages.” For a 5-9 player in MLB, no pitcher should be fooled by his size. “The Babe” Schneider has not gone silent so far in 2024, and it will be exciting to see if he can continue to contribute to the success of the Blue Jays with his impressive composure and discipline.
