Does This Young Pitcher Have Potential to Be the White Sox Ace?

Could Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet be the team’s next ace in the pitching rotation? Their lack of offence helped cloud what Crochet’s strong out was. Crochet, statistically, was remarkable in his opening start and proved some doubters wrong. While there are still some big questions surrounding his ability to stick it out for a whole season, the White Sox may have found their next ace.

Garrett Crochet’s Potential As an Ace

Is Crochet Anything Like Dylan Cease?

Of course, it’s too early to tell, and it’s only been one game. The White Sox still have a long way to go, and we have yet to get a full sampling of what Crochet may be like. He has some qualities that show he has the stuff and potential to succeed. Although he had Tommy John surgery in the last few seasons, he can still throw the ball hard and fast. Crochet has a bevy of pitches that will get him by.

He’s a smart guy with a lot of talent. The White Sox are lucky to have him. Coming off a game in which he garnered a 1.50 ERA and a WHIP of .833 to go along with eight strikeouts to start the season, Crochet shined. Those numbers are not bad. Imagine if he could carry that to the next few starts. Crochet would look a lot like a 2022 Dylan Cease. That would be great for the Sox.

What Does the Future Hold?

The Chicago White Sox aren’t going to win many games this year. They are on a mission to “find” themselves. Part of doing that is seeing what they have with the players currently on the roster. If guys like Crochet can step up and perform well, they will have something to look forward to. They must sit and wait and see what they have in Crochet (and the others).

It’s just one game. There is no reason to crown him king of the rotation just yet. If he continues to do well and play at the level that he played at in his first game, he just might be able to be labeled the next Cease. Or maybe he will want to be called the first “Crochet” to come into the big leagues and play well.

The White Sox must get a lot out of their pitching staff this season. The better their starts, like the one they got out of Crochet on Thursday, the better off they will be. If they can just get the offense going, good things will happen. Any club can have all the solid pitching in the world on their side, but if they can’t hit, there’s a huge problem.

The other side is that Crochet’s start is just one solid start from one pitcher. The other four starters need starts like Crochet’s. It’s difficult to know how things will go as the season rolls along until everyone knows what they are getting with the other pitchers.
