Last month, we predicted which five unpredictable Colorado Rockies pitchers would claim a starting spot within the rotation. Well, all five we’ve predicted will make the rotation, as the official decision was made clear yesterday afternoon. Colorado’s rotation consists of two left-handed pitchers at the one and three spots in the rotation, while three right-handed pitchers claim the other three slots. After their worst season in franchise history, this team is looking to fully bounce back. Especially the pitching staff, who may have put up their worst all-around numbers in 2023. Although they play in what might be the toughest division in baseball, the Rockies have experienced a great Spring Training. They look fully ready to take on this 162-game season. This Rockies starting five will look to strive for excellence through each start in 2024.
The Rockies Five Man Rotation is Set
- (LHP) Kyle Freeland
- (RHP) Cal Quantrill
- (LHP) Austin Gomber
- (RHP) Ryan Feltner
- (RHP) Dakota Hudson
This Rockies starting pitching rotation has a lot to redeem from last season. Since Germán Márquez’s return is yet to be determined, this team’s rotation is looking to set things right in his absence. Freeland will look to be amongst the team’s strikeout leaders for the 2024 season. Cal Quantrill is certainly ready to redeem himself after a sloppy 2023 season. Austin Gomber has plenty to prove, and he’ll look to make a bigger impact by taking more wins on the mound and recording a lower ERA. Ryan Feltner will look to have more wins than losses for the first time in his young career and show he’s capable of being a quality starter. While Dakota Hudson looks to be the starter within the rotation with the lowest ERA.
Right-handed pitcher Peter Lambert begins the season as the long-haul reliever. As there are plenty of concerning questions surrounding this team, quite possibly the biggest question mark above the Rockies heads is about the rotation and its improvement.
