The inaugural MLB Spring Breakout is right around the corner, and the rosters are set for the four-day prospect showcase. Fans will get to see a rematch between Orioles prospect Jackson Holliday and Pirates prospect Paul Skenes when the two teams face off on March 14th.
Holliday Headlines Orioles Spring Breakout Roster
Holliday is one of the 24 prospects representing the Baltimore Orioles in the inaugural prospect showcase. With the league’s top-ranked farm system, it’s no surprise that the Orioles’ Spring Breakout roster is loaded. Joining Holliday in Bradenton will be fellow Top 100 Prospects Samuel Basallo and Coby Mayo, along with 15 of the Orioles’ Top 30 prospects.
If Skenes gets the start for the Pirates in the seven-inning exhibition game, he will face Holliday for the second time this spring. The two top prospects first squared off on February 29th when the Pirates faced the Orioles in Sarasota. Skenes took the mound in his first Spring Training start while Holliday batted leadoff. Holliday grounded out on the second pitch from Skenes to start the bottom of the first inning.
Samuel Basallo (MLB #17) has yet to play in a game this spring as he recovers from an elbow stress fracture. The catcher/first baseman participated in live batting practice earlier this week and is hopeful he’ll get a chance to play at Spring Breakout. Infielder Coby Mayo (MLB #30), on the other hand, is slashing .417/.563/.667 in just six games this spring.
