MLB betting picks for today are here! It’s at the point of the season where the season lends itself to chaotic ebbs and flows. Throughout the long, tumultuous eight months, we are treated to feats and accomplishments never seen nor told. In other words, would the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets front offices believe you if you told them they’d be out of the playoff race by September? How about the San Diego Padres? What about the Seattle Mariners being in first place? Did you place your bets for Chicago Cubs’ Justin Steele to win the NL Cy Young? Labor Day was fun. Bring it on Tuesday.
A 2-1 beginning to the week means we are up. Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve had another monster game, going 4-6, three runs scored, two RBI and two home runs. The Philadelphia Phillies jumped to an 8-1 lead and held off the Padres for a 9-7 victory. Our only loss came after a starting pitching change. Oakland Athletics gave the ball to Luis Medina, who gave up three earned runs for our first five innings ML to lose out to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Now that the long weekend is over, our MLB betting picks roll on. We have a full slate of 15 games on Tuesday. Here are three MLB bets of the day, including one of the National League’s best teams. Remember to tail and BOL!
MLB Betting Picks for September 5
LOS ANGELES DODGERS VS. MIAMI MARLINS: DODGERS ML (-150)
We have a potential playoff match-up tonight in South Beach when the Miami Marlins play hosts to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Marlins had been shaky since the All-Star break but remain in the Wild Card race. The Dodgers had been cruising until they played the Atlanta Braves and lost three out of four games. They are still in first and turn to their Cy Young winner tonight.
Clayton Kershaw has been his vintage self in 2023, logging a 2.48 ERA with a 12-4 record. His last seven appearances sees the southpaw with a 1.50 ERA that includes 4-0 record and 27 strikeouts. In his career at Marlins Park, Kershaw has been stellar. He has a 1.44 ERA in five games and 37 strikeouts, and a 2.68 ERA against the Marlins.
Marlins’ starter Jesus Luzardo has been dominant in his last two starts (12 innings, no earned runs) but has yet to be this version previously vs. the Dodgers. He has given up six earned runs in 14.1 innings pitched in his career. Look for Dodger sluggers Mookie Betts (.400 career vs. Luzardo), Freddie Freeman (.400), Ahmed Rosario (.667), and Chris Taylor (.333, 1 RBI) to find success off Luzardo tonight.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX VS. KANSAS CITY ROYALS: o9 runs (-120)
The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals meet tonight in Kansas City for a match-up that should see a lot of runs. White Sox starter Dylan Cease has given up 30 earned runs in his last 34.2 innings pitched, and Royals’ hurler Brady Singer has given up eight earned runs in his previous 7 2/3 innings thrown. Cease’s (6-7, 4.91 ERA) and Singer’s (8-10, 5.15 ERA) season-long numbers highlight their struggle this season.
Cease has a 4.43 ERA in 44 2/3 innings pitched and gave up seven earned runs in five innings on May 8. Singer has been solidly in the bottom one per cent of hard-hit rate (49.3%) and has the highest xERA in his career.
For the Royals, Kyle Isbel (.500 cevs Cease), Edward Olivares (.273), Salvador Perez (1 HR), and Bobby Witt Jr. (.250) will all try to build off previous success vs. Cease. Tim Anderson (.438), Andrew Benintendi (.333), and Eloy Jimenez (.563) will look to do the same vs. Singer.
HOUSTON ASTROS VS. TEXAS RANGERS: o9 runs (-105)
Our final pick tonight takes us to the lone-star state for the Houston Astros vs. the Texas Rangers. The Astros won the opener 13-6 yesterday and will look to solidify their playoff status with another win. The Astros will send out Framber Valdez, who hasn’t been his shutdown self recently, and the Rangers will welcome back Nathan Evoldi off the IL.
The Rangers walloped Valdez on July 26th; he gave up six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, along with two home runs. Nathaniel Lowe (.300, 1 HR), Corey Seager (.300, 2 RBI), and Marcus Semien (2 HR, 3 RBI) have all been able to get to Valdez in previous meetings.
For Evoldi, coming back from injury can be challenging, especially when facing one of the hottest teams in baseball. Jose Altuve has gone deep three times off of Evoldi, so has Yordan Alvarez, Michael Brantley, Alex Bregman, and Kyle Tucker in their careers. If Evoldi does get hit around or can’t go as deep, the Rangers will have to rely on the bullpen. Look for a lot of runs in Arlington tonight.
