Why Chad Green Could Be Valuable for the Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to battle for a spot in the AL Wild Card standings, and pitcher Chad Green could be a valuable asset for them. The team will be calling him up to their 40-man roster for their game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday. Last season with the New York Yankees, Green underwent Tommy John surgery, missing the rest of 2022 and all of 2023 so far. Unfortunately, he also had a bit of a setback with one of his recent rehab starts, as he got hammered in the head by a catcher’s throw. But Green has overcome that and is ready to join the Jays roster. He will be joining teammate Spencer Horwitz who is also set to return to the Jays 40-man roster.

Chad Green’s Return Could Be Valuable for the Jays

Strong Rehab

It will be exciting to see what Chad Green can provide in the Blue Jays bullpen. He performed well in his 12th and final rehab appearance on August 30th. In terms of Green’s fastball velocity, he has been averaging around 93.8 mph and reaching up to about 94.5 mph. Overall, he’s most likely to sustain this but these numbers could increase with his return to the majors. A valuable pitcher outlines consistency, and Green has shown consistency with his rehab assignments.

In his rehab start on August 26th, he threw 15 pitches and 1o were strikes. Green focuses on four pitches in his delivery. Most of the time he will rely on his four-seam fastball. After that comes his curveball, then the change-up, and lastly the sinker. In his rehab game on August 26th, his four-seam fastball was a successful pitch with which he dominated the strike zone.

A Respectable Career with the Yankees

Chad Green had a successful career when he was with the New York Yankees. He sustained a respectable career ERA of 3.17. His best season with the Yankees was back in 2017. That year, he recorded a 1.83 ERA with a record of 5-0. His success with the Yankees makes him a potentially valuable asset for Toronto. Blue Jays fans have anxiously been awaiting his return. Green, without question, was overlooked and undervalued as a Yankee. But, if he can claim success with the Jays, his respect will continue to pile up. In addition, he will continue to be a valuable asset.

If Green can showcase similar successful seasons that he has had with the Yankees, it will be an added boost to the Jays bullpen. You can never have too many relievers, and Toronto has a powerful bullpen with pitchers like Jordan Hicks, Jordan Romano, Yimi Garcia, Trevor Richards, and others. All have been valuable for the Blue Jays this season, and Green can show his value by demonstrating his strong pitching mechanics as a reliever.

Pitcher Not a Belly Itcher!

It will be exciting to see what Chad Green can do upon his return as the Blue Jays continue to hustle for a wild-card spot. Can he pick up where he left off before he went on the IL? The Jays already have a strong bullpen, so adding Green to the mix could make it even stronger. The bullpen this season, for the most part, has helped the Blue Jays get out of jams, especially when one of their starters has had to come out of the game early. It is always significant when your bullpen can help you out and put up scoreless innings. Chad Green can be valuable for the Jays. If they make the postseason it will be exciting to see what he can do. After he made it back and trucked through his injuries, Blue Jays fans will be wishing him all the best.
