The New York Mets are about to enter the season’s final month on Friday. With that comes September call-ups and prospects making their way to the big leagues. On Wednesday, in the middle of the Mets series finale with the Texas Rangers, it was reported that the team would call up Ronny Mauricio. Mauricio will debut on Friday as New York opens a series with the Seattle Mariners at Citi Field.

The Mets plan on adding Ronny Mauricio when rosters expand per @DanielAlvarezEE.
Mauricio is hitting .303/.373/.586, 131 wRC+ in August.

I would expect the Mets to play Ronny Mauricio at second base. That’s where he has played the last 12 games and the position outside of shortstop that he looks most comfortable.

It’s been a long time coming for Mauricio, and you can make the case he should’ve been up at the Major League level months ago. Especially, when the team sold at the trade deadline. Instead of giving playing time to guys who might not be on the roster in 2024, calling up Mauricio would’ve been the wiser move. Nevertheless, Mauricio will finally put on a big league uniform.
What Mauricio Brings
Defensively, he’s been moved all over the field from shortstop, outfield and most recently second base. However, his biggest positive is at the plate and his power. Mauricio has slugged 23 home runs for Triple-A Syracuse this year with 71 RBI on 143 hits. He slashed .295/.349/.511.

Mauricio is finally here for the Mets after a long time of anticipation. Now, he gets all of the final month of the season to show what he can do. A lot of the Mets 2024 roster is up for grabs, and Mauricio has a chance to impress the Mets front office.
