Quite a dreadful day yesterday for the Best Bets series. The misery started off with Eduardo Rodriguez falling just one strikeout short, while the bats behind him did their part. A very salty way to lose that one. In the Minnesota Twins game, Joe Ryan got absolutely touched from the beginning, and there was no reprieve until the end. The St. Louis Cardinals dispatched the Twins handily 7-3. Maybe the most brutal loss of the day came in the San Diego Padres game. The visiting team’s offense exploded for 11 runs on the day with five of the nine batters in the lineup collecting an RBI. Sadly, none of those players were named Manny Machado. With that said, today is another day, and that means more baseball! Here are my best bets for August 3rd!

Today’s first play comes courtesy of an AL East clash between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. The O’s newest member, Jack Flaherty, will be making his pitching debut for the visiting team after being signed at the deadline. He will have a tough matchup in his first go, dueling against the always-stellar Kevin Gausman. I like this one to stay close as both starting pitchers are talented, and both teams have excellent bullpens.

For our second pick of the day, we hop on a jet to sunny California for another AL divisional clash between the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels. Now this play doesn’t require much of an explanation, but I’ll give it to you anyway. Shohei Ohtani mans the bump tonight for the Angels, which can only mean one thing. Strikeouts, strikeouts, strikeouts. The Mariners enter tonight’s game with an adjusted K% of 26.7%, the second worst in the league.
