The San Francisco Giants have signed their ace starting pitcher Logan Webb to a 5-year extension worth $90 million. This comes at a time when he’s not exactly pitching like an ace. All the same, his track record will almost certainly prove most reliable in the long run.

KNBR Radio Hosts Are Optimistic About Webb
Last week, I called the Tolbert and Copes show on KNBR. I wanted to know their opinion on why Webb has had such a terrible start to the season. The answer I got was pretty straightforward. The Giants could go nowhere if Webb did not pitch well, and yet his record over the past couple of years presents far greater evidence in the Giants’ favor than his first three starts of 2023 do otherwise.
A Step Toward Keeping the Rotation Solid
It must be pointed out that Webb has been able to maintain a positive attitude during his slump. And it would be fair to say that’s huge. Clearly, he knows that he has to pitch better. But he still feels in control.
The Giants exercised a lot of faith in Webb when they signed him to the five-year extension. And this time, their choice seems to be the right one. They’ve spent money on pitchers that did nothing for them before, with Matthew Boyd standing out as an example. It wasn’t nearly as big of a commitment, but it sure stank. But, while they’ve made serious mistakes before, their 5-year extension with Webb is a well-made decision. It is likely to yield huge benefits to them in the future.
Hopefully, it will not take five years to win a championship. But the good news is that even if it did take that long, the Giants will have a chance when the time comes. This five-year extension is a start in the healing process for the questionable job they did in the offseason.
