Baltimore Orioles Provide Health Update
The Baltimore Orioles provided an update regarding the status of first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini Monday. Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports was the first with the update on Twitter.
Mike Elias said Trey Mancini doing well. In good spot to make 100 percent recovery. But will be out months not weeks. No recovery timeline in terms of a baseball season #orioles

The news is a great development for the Orioles. Back in March, the 28-year old had surgery to remove to remove a cancerous tumor. Originally, doctors discovered the tumor during a colonoscopy.
However, the entire diagnosis started during Mancini’s pre-Spring Training physical. Every year when players report to Spring Training, they must undergo a physical. In this case, Mancini’s blood work results hinted to doctors that something significant could be going on. Thus, a colonoscopy was performed to discover what that could be.
Mancini ended up receiving the colonoscopy on March 7th. Five days later on March 12th, Mancini had the surgery performed which ended up being another day of significance. That was also the day that the entire baseball world stopped. Stopped due to the current coronavirus pandemic across our country.
Mancini’s Role in 2020
Going into this season, Trey Mancini was viewed as a pivotal part of the Orioles roster. In fact, an argument can be made that Mancini is the their most talented player. In many ways, Baltimore was counting heavily on his presence especially from an offensive and veteran leadership perspective.
Mancini, who would be going into his fifth big league season, has the qualities of a leader. He leads in the clubhouse and on the field for a young, rebuilding Orioles team. If there ends up being a season this year, which remains very unclear, Mancini could provide valuable lessons to the Orioles young position players. Additionally, that’s hoping that Mancini could return 100% healthy in a short period of time.
Final Thoughts
In the end, health should always come first and foremost for any player in baseball. In the case of Trey Mancini, focusing on coming back 100% healthy is the key focus right now. According to reports, there is not a yet a definitive timeline for his return.
Furthermore, it is very unclear whether or not there will even be a season this year. If there is and Trey Mancini is completely healthy, that’s going to be a significant boost for the Orioles, who have their sights set to the future.
