The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed starting pitcher Alex Wood to a one-year contract worth $4 million. He can reportedly earn another $6 million in incentives to bring the contract to a max value of $10 million. Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the deal.

Los Angeles Dodgers Sign Starting Pitcher Alex Wood
Major League Career
Wood, out of the University of Georgia, was selected by his hometown team—the Atlanta Braves—in the second round of the 2012 MLB Draft. In his Braves tenure, Wood recorded a 21-20 record, 3.10 ERA, 3.17 FIP, and struck out 8.2 batters per nine innings. He was then traded to the Dodgers in July of 2015 as part of a three-team trade.
Wood went on to pitch his best baseball of his career while in Los Angeles, including an All-Star campaign in 2017. In that 2017 season, he compiled a 16-3 record, 2.72 ERA, 3.32 FIP, and 151 strikeouts in 152.1 innings. As a result, he finished ninth in the NL Cy Young voting. He backed that season up with another strong output in 2018. He finished the year with a 9-7 record, 3.68 ERA, 3.53 FIP, and 135 strikeouts in 151.2 innings. Over the 2017 and 2018 seasons, his .714 winning percentage (25-10) ranked sixth (4th in NL) among the 72 Major League pitchers with at least 50 starts. And his 3.20 ERA ranked 12th (6th in NL) and his 1.12 WHIP was 14th overall.
Last offseason, the Dodgers traded Wood to the Cincinnati Reds, along with Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Kyle Farmer and cash considerations in exchange for Homer Bailey, Jeter Downs, and Josiah Gray. Unfortunately for Wood, things got off to bad start in March when he was placed on the 60-day injured list with a back injury. As a consequence, he made just seven starts. In those seven starts, he pitched to a 1-3 record, 5.80 ERA, 6.38 FIP, and 30 strikeouts in 35.2 innings.
In his seven-year career, Wood has pitched to a 53-43 record, 3.40 ERA, 3.49 FIP, and 1.223 WHIP.
