Former AL MVP Josh Hamilton was arrested Wednesday. According to reports, the charge is a third-degree felony for injury to a child, stemming from an altercation with one of his three daughters. Hamilton was booked and released on a bond set at $35,000.

The Incident
The incident involving Josh Hamilton revolves around him abusing his daughter. According to the Dallas Morning News, he became upset with her on September 30th, throwing a water bottle at her which hit her in the chest. The situation continued to escalate when Hamilton threw a chair, which he pulled from under her feet, and yanked her to the ground.
Eventually, Hamilton threw her over his shoulder and carried her up to her room. He pinned down her head with one hand while hitting her legs with the other. Finally, he grabbed her by the sweatshirt and hit her on the back.
The incident involved a lot of yelling and cursing, as well.
Hamilton’s ex-wife sought a protective order over the daughter earlier this month. Since then, that order has been expanded, prohibiting Hamilton from coming in contact with any child under the age of 17.
A Troubled Past
This incident is the latest in a series of events that have defined Hamilton’s life. Previously the number one overall draft pick by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1999, Hamilton found himself out of baseball while battling substance abuse.
Hamilton managed to earn his reinstatement, debuting with the Cincinnati Reds in 2007. He did find success in MLB, while playing nine seasons and making five All-Star teams. The Texas Rangers made consecutive World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011 with help from Hamilton, who won the 2010 AL MVP. In that season, he hit 32 home runs with 100 RBI and a had a slash line of .359/.411/.633.
Hamilton left the Rangers for a five year-$125 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels after the 2012 season. Unfortunately, Hamilton battled relapses of his addiction and his tenure with the Angels ended after two seasons.
Hamilton returned to the Rangers for 2015, playing in 50 games. He remained signed with the team despite not playing a game, until they released him in 2017. He was inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame earlier in the year.
