Byron Buxton Done for 2019
Within the 2019 season, no single person has seemingly had more stints on the injured list than Byron Buxton.
Now, the 2012 first-round draft pick for the Minnesota Twins was officially put on the IL earlier today as noted by Dan Hayes of The Athletic. The news comes a day after Buxton traveled to California to get a closer look at his left shoulder. Buxton was set to have surgery to repair his injured labrum. The recovery time table is set to take five to six months.

The Injury Origin
The origination of this injury began back on August 1st after colliding with the outfield wall in Miami. From there Buxton suffered a subluxation. Buxton also went through various comeback attempts including a five-game stint with the Twins. He came back to the major league club primarily as a defensive replacement and pinch-runner.
There was hope that a rehab assignment beginning on Aug. 25 would remedy the situation. Unfortunately for Buxton, he appeared in just one game at Low-A ball.
Buxton’s Injury History
As talented as Buxton is, he is starting to become known more for his trips to the IL than his skill set. In 2019 alone, Buxton has played in just 87 games. He’s accumulated a batting average of .262 with 30 doubles, four triples, and ten home runs. This will be the third time this season the Buxton has been sidelined due to injury. He had a right wrist contusion in June and concussion-like symptoms back in July.
Injuries have become more common with Buxton than anything else. In 2018, Buxton went on the injured list four times with wrist strains, migraines, and fractured left big toe. Over the course of the five seasons, Buxton has played over 100 games just once. Overall since 2018, Buxton has been seen in just 115 games.
Going Forward
While yet another absence of Buxton is a hard pill to swallow, the Twins do get Kyle Gibson back from the 10-day IL. As for the absence of Buxton, the Twins have called up infielder Ronald Torreyes from Triple-A Rochester. The hope is that Buxton will be back in full health for the start of the 2020 season.
