The Ogden Raptors are the Rookie League affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and have already earned a playoff spot in September, due in part to the efforts of prospect Jacob Amaya. The middle infielder from Rosemead, California is climbing through the organization with his recent promotion to Low-A ball. Amaya will face his toughest challenges to date, obviously with the advancement of talent in the new level. Less apparent may be the fact that the Midwest League is a pitcher friendly league, whereas the Pioneer League is the exact opposite.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have several talented middle infielding prospects at this time, so Amaya may not be on the radar of Dodger fans just yet. With his new opportunity in Great Lakes, the 19 year old Amaya could become a top 30 prospect in the very near future.
Amaya leaves Ogden with a 15-game hit streak intact. Even more remarkably, he reached base safely in 31 of the 32 games he played. Only five hitless games all season! His OBP is an astounding .465. Loons fans will enjoy him.

It would seem as though Jacob Amaya could be starting out the 2019 season in High-A Rancho Cucamonga. When that does happen, it will be great for Dodgers fans because they will get the opportunity to see Amaya up close and near where he has grown up.
Prospect Talk
Jacob Amaya is less than a month away from his 20th birthday (September 3, 1998), but his poise and maturity are beyond that of most his age that you may know. The 11th round draft pick of a year ago, Amaya is ready to take on his next task and does not seem satisfied with his stellar performance so far in 2018. “Yes, I’m happy with how my season is going so far, but there is more I wanna accomplish as the season goes on,” Amaya stated recently.
Accomplishments are fantastic, however, development is the name of the game in the minors. In Ogden, the accomplishments and development came in abundance under Manager Jeremy Rodriguez. Positivity exudes from Amaya, and when asked about playing for Rodriguez, he did not hold back. “Playing under a Manager like J-Rod is incredible! The way he goes about his business day in and day out makes you comfortable as a player.” Jacob Amaya will now be reunited with his Manager of last year, in the Arizona Rookie League, John Shoemaker, and the development will proceed.

Amaya, On Base Again
Jacob Amaya has began his tenure in Great Lakes in the same fashion as he left off in Ogden, getting on base with consistency. The pride of South Hills High in West Covina is still the Pioneer League leader in On Base Percentage at .465. Amaya is currently ranked fourth in Batting Average with a .346 tally. When you are on base, you have the chance to be driven home by your teammates and Amaya scored 41 runs, still tied for second in the Pioneer League. Perhaps Jacob Amaya’s most impressive portion of the stat line is his walks (27) to strike-outs, only 29 times did Amaya go down on strikes, he puts the ball in play. It will be exciting to see where his development takes him in 2018 and beyond!
