According to various reports, Joakim Soria was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. In return, the Brewers sent the White Sox two prospects including 2014 1st round pick Kodi Medeiros.
Joakim Soria Traded to the Milwaukee Brewers
A two-time All-Star, Soria, 34, has bounced around a few teams in recent years but pitched to the tune of a 3.70 ERA over 56 innings for the Kansas City Royals last season. In 2015 the Royals signed Soria to a 3-year $25 million contract with a $10 million mutual option for the 2019 season. Within a deep Brewers bullpen, Soria likely slots in a 7th inning role helping to bridge the Brewers rotation to Josh Hader and Corey Knebel in the back end.
For the first time since 2015, Soria has pitched full-time as a closer, saving 16 games in 19 opportunities for the White Sox. With a 2.56 ERA over the course of the season, and a 0.74 ERA over his last 25 opportunities, Soria adds to an already stellar Brewers bullpen with Hader, Knebel, who Soria had previously been traded for, and Jeremy Jeffress among others for a playoff push.
In return, the White Sox received 2014 1st round pick Kodi Medeiros who is in the midst of the best season of his career at Double-A Biloxi with a 7-5 record and a 3.14 ERA. The second piece of the trade was DSL prospect Wilber Perez who sports impressive statistics such as a 2.01 ERA, 29% K Rate and an 8% BB Rate. The two pitchers add to an impressive collection of talent for the White Sox, who own one of the best farm systems in baseball.
