Jose Ramirez and Cleveland Indians Agree to Contract Extension
Ramirez made his debut with the Indians in 2013 as part of their September call-ups and found success in the majors, hitting .333 with a .929 OPS in 15 games. But without a doubt, Ramirez had his biggest career success last season where the utility infielder played in 152 games and finished the year with a .312 batting average. Ramirez also had an .825 OPS in 2016 with 11 home runs and a 3.9 WAR.
Ramirez’s successful year no doubt had an impact on the Indians’ fantastic postseason run and their World Series appearance. While the Indians lost in Game Seven of the World Series to the Chicago Cubs, Ramirez found personal success. In 30 plate appearances in the World Series, Ramirez slashed .310/.333/.448 with one home run and two RBI.
If the Indians have any hopes of returning to the postseason in 2017, Ramirez (who is expected to be the everyday third baseman) will be an integral part of it.
Uodate 3/28/2917:
On Tuesday, the Indians and Ramirez officially agreed on a five-year, $26 million extension. This could be a huge steal for Cleveland in locking up their young star.
Jose Ramirez deal guarantees $26 million. Options are for $11M and $13M. Escalators can take the total deal to $50M over six total years.
