Norwegian dynamite Mats Moller Daehli has been the main focus at Cardiff City in the last week, with fears that his talent is being ‘wasted’. Daehli arrived at Cardiff City on the 11th of January this year from Manchester United, alongside international team mate Magnus Wolff Eikrem.
The nineteen-year-old was brought to Cardiff under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, since then he has proved his worth, showing dazzling skills with the ball at his feet, making him able to beat players, create chances, and in some cases score goals. Under Ole he was a regular starter and was becoming a real nuisance for defences.
Unfortunately, this run of starts has mysteriously come to an end, with no hint of injury or run of poor performances; with change of formation to 4-4-2 many people believe Daehli can’t play to his full potential in these positions and recently appointed boss Russell Slade seems to think the same, now many people are beginning to question Slade about not even giving him a position on the bench, let alone a place in the starting line-up. Slade has not changed the formation once since arriving, putting his faith in 4-4-2. Rumours have started to circulate that maybe he is homesick, or a rather more sinister view that the current investigations into Ole’s transfer dealings may have something to do with Daehli’s lack of game time.
Nevertheless, whatever Slade’s plan is on Mats he has not made it clear; Daehli has said to the media:
‘I just want to play football,’ clearly agitated by the lack of game time.
Fans now fear the January transfer window, knowing that many of the Premier League clubs have picked up on his talent; he has turned down Premier League giants Manchester United TWICE to stay with Cardiff thus far. With a club like Manchester United interested he won’t stay a Cardiff player long if he’s unhappy with the game time and wants to move on,
I hope that in the next couple of weeks Slade makes clear his plans for the future of this talented youngster.
