Follow The Tweeters: Raw and Smackdown Reactions (Jan 27-31)

Welcome back to another edition of Follow The Tweeters; a weekly tale of how you, the people on Twitter, reacted to this week’s editions of WWE Raw and Smackdown. Whether it’s insightful, funny or downright random, we chose the best tweets of this week and gave you the spotlight.

On Monday night, here was the best of the best:

Sid Bridge ‏@SidBridgeComedy
Haven’t seen a boom drop that awesome since the morning after I ate 9 tacos. #raw

Sid kicks us off in style with a fabulous poop joke. I, for one, am a huge fan of toilet humor. Nine tacos though… I remember the last time I went on a taco tirade. It wasn’t pretty.

craig hermit ‏@craighermit
When was the last time Ambrose had a proper feud for the U.S Title, Kofi has the talent to have a credible battle, do this #RAW #WWE

Craig makess a good point. I had to think about the last time Dean Ambrose had a legitimate challenge to his United States Championship. Here’s what I came up with:

Big E. Langston? (Hell in a Cell PPV, Raw the following night)
Back-to-back losses for Ambrose by count-out and DQ. Serious feud? Maybe the seeds were planted for a future match that will see the United States Championship and Intercontinental Championships merged. I wouldn’t consider this a proper feud just yet.

Dolph Ziggler? (Main Event Taping, Smackdown Taping, Night of Champions PPV)
At this time, and still is to some extent, getting the short end of the stick and utilized very poorly. Although they were good matches, the WWE was booking Dolph so poorly that it wasn’t nothing more then a mere title defense against an opponent that wasn’t going to win.

Rob Van Dam? (Summerslam PPV)
A one-off match against a part-timer that was brought in to stabilize the credibility of a Champion, much like Chris Jericho has done over the past few years.

Kane? (Payback PPV, Raw the following night)
Much like the Langston series, Ambrose fought Kane twice, ultimately ending in DQ and count-out decisions (Ambrose did win one, via count-out). At this stage of his career, when Kane challenges a Champion for his title, it is mostly for the aura of defeating the Big Red Machine for some credibility. Another RVD-like situation.

So when was Dean Ambrose’s last “proper feud” for the United States Championship? Go back to May of 2013, the Extreme Rules PPV. Yes, the night Dean Ambrose defeated Kofi Kingston to win the United States Championship. Following that night, Ambrose would battle Kingston in both singles matches and six-man tag matches alongside The Shield, a total of five times (including their match for Kingston’s Championship). Ambrose did defend his Championship twice during that stretch, although one was ruled a No Contest.

The Uso’s are the best tag team doing it right now in the WWE #RAW

I would have to agree with this statement. In the tag team division, who do we have currently, on the Face side?

Cody Rhodes and Goldust – Probably the most popular in terms of name value, but not as over with the crowd, if you factor in fan involvement.

Prime Time Players – They’ve lost their stock and… Smackdown this week tells you how this story ends.

Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara – Fans are sitting in anticipation, waiting on the next Sin Cara injury.

Big E. Langston and Mark Henry – Henry’s injury put an end to their small, but entertaining run.

On the heel side, I would say there are better tag teams out there, such as The Real Americans and The Shield (any time Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins tag together). Considering the run that they are on, The Usos are the hottest tag team in the WWE right now. And if you’re not down with that…

CM Punk is The BITW ‏@RespectPunkBITW
Orton Batista and lesnar in the ring. Awesome #Raw

Although I am no fan of Batista’s (I was never a fan of his, past and present), it was a sight to see and sit in awe over. Orton, the Champion, in the ring with two behemoths at the same time, one of which is the number one contender for his Championship. The other, a monster of a man that wants nothing more than to destroy everything in his path. Paul Heyman has made the inclination that Brock Lesnar wants the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Championship but I don’t know about that. It seems to me, he would enjoy destroying Randy Orton, Batista and anyone else that stands in his way MORE than he would like to be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

I think me and Batista have the same pairs of jeans. #Raw

They really are a cute pair of skinny jeans, aren’t they?

April Mendez. ‏@LuvAJForeves
Boo! Haha. People hate the fact that Batista won and not Roman Reigns! #RAW

I had to include this tweet because of how out of touch this user seems to be. The crowd was indeed upset with Reigns not winning the Rumble, but that’s not what the outrage was about at the Royal Rumble. Fans cheered on Reigns, not because they really wanted him to win (or they did, he has been hot lately) but rather they DID NOT want Batista to win. It was too obvious for him to be the last man standing, even more-so than last year’s Royal Rumble PPV when my own two year old could have told you John Cena was going to win it.

To boot, fans just didn’t like Daniel Bryan being left out. Fans were cheated, both those who attended live and those who spent the $70 fee to watch the PPV at home, myself included.

Diva Dirt ‏@divadirt
@EMMAWWE once again spotted in the crowd, and @RealSummerWWE doesn’t look too happy about it! #Raw

To quote the Daniel Bryan of old; “NO! NO! NO!”

I am completely against Emma and her Emmanation. Over the long while that I have watched her in NXT, she has not impressed me. Summer Rae is ahead of her and despite being on WWE television for the longest of times, Summer hasn’t seen much action in the ring. And what about Paige? She’s the most talented women wrestler in NXT right now.

For now, I am just not a fan. Perhaps she proves me wrong.

Instead of being on a podium every week, Wade Barrett should be in the ring. I can’t be the only one who feels that way.

Or maybe he should drop this Bad News Barrett shtick he has going, step into the ring and actually have a match. He’s proven with these promos that he can talk, he can be that magnet for heat, he has the size and a decent look and the last time I checked, he’s none too shabby in the ring either. Wade Barrett should be wrestling, full-time. Give Big E. Langston a proper feud for his belt and give Kofi to Ambrose to compete over the United States Championship. If you turn two mid-card titles into one, you might as well toss away your entire mid-card.

Mick Foley ‏@realmickfoley
Consider this @WWE Hall of Famer on board the @WWEDanielBryan #YesMovement. As a matter of fact, I’d like to drive the train! #RAW #YES

Mick gets it. Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy is the voice of reason!

One ticket on the #YesMovement train for me, Mr. Foley.

#YESMovement ‏@babyd011_ Jan 27
Okay so we got The Ultimate Warrior & Jake “The Snake”. Can Randy Savage be next in line PLEASE!! #RAW

Besides Paul Bearer getting the nod, Randy Savage should absolutely be there and it is a damn shame it has taken this long.

Raw was fun, but what did Smackdown bring? Here are your tweets from this Friday’s taping:

The Wyatt Family ‏@WWEAussieViper
The mid card lately has just gone to hell, it’s either Fandango vs Truth or Fandango vs Woods. #Smackdown

The main problem with the WWE, present-time, is the lack of exposure outside of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture. Sure, there are the two mid-card Titles, but are there any memorable feuds between Champion and challenger? The divas division has a Champion who loses ninety percent of her matches. The tag team division was on it’s way to getting re-hauled but came to an abrupt stop a few months ago. The WWE has a total of five hours of weekly television programming (not including Main Event, Superstars, etc..) so there is no real excuse to be made. Spend more time building up your mid-card and tag team divisions because if you look back into the Attitude era, your main event stars ten years later came from those divisions. And for the love of God, give the Divas division a more serious approach.

Ziggler-holic c: ‏@AlishaWWEDiva
Seth was extra careful about jumping over the barricade this time

Poor Seth. For those who missed it, Seth Rollins went for his routine barricade front roll during his entrance, only to have the barricade wall dis-lodge and fall over, causing Rollins to take a tumble. He looked fine, although clearly not happy as he slapped the ground before making his way back to his feet. On the bright side, it was a hell of a breakdance routine he gave.

Nemesis ‏@ShadyRelapsed
Roman Reigns makes The Shield. #SmackDown

I disagree. All three members make the Shield. Reigns has been the muscle, the intimidating force. Ambrose has been the mouth piece, the character that makes you wonder if he is controlled deep-down inside or if he’ll snap at any moment and Rollins is the tactical technician in the ring, who is the ability to deliver five-star quality matches on any given night. Each member compliments the other. They all have promising futures ahead of them.

Christopher The Kind ‏@Chrisjr_Ediale
Damn….Titus O’ Neal shocked me on #SmackDown ….#WWEFAMILY

And just like when Shad turned on JTG; Nobody really cared.

Andy Turns Heel ‏@AndyTurnsHeel
Also must give props to Ziggler/Cesaro for having a tremendous match on what’s become a feast-or-famine broadcast #WWE #SmackDown

*Insert 75-year old retiree voice*

Back in my day, these two would be battling it out for the Intercontinental Championship, with their future brighter than ever.

Here rests the problem with combining the World Heavyweight Championship with the WWE Championship. Now there is no grey area. You are either “not good enough” to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship or you are “above” challenging for either of the mid-card Championships. The end result? A bunch of hungry, young wrestlers whom are stuck in limbo.

The bad guy ‏@BadGuyNwo4Life
I always thought @TitusONeilWWE was a main event wrestler I’m glad he disbanded the prime time players. Go #Gators @WWE #SmackDown

If Titus is the guy moving forward, leap-frogging over Darren Young, then I give up. The WWE may have a gem in Young, and I felt that way before he came out to the public about his homosexuality. Young has a great look, is much better in the ring than Titus and has a better personality. He has a certain likeability to him that is needed to advance in this line of work.

★Ruth★ ‏@xRuthStarx
Can Emma do something other than hold signs in the crowd now, like jump over the barricade and fight with summer.. something lol! #Smackdown

She can dance… sort of.

V Les Gonesse ‏@V_NCP
#wwe needs some new writers badly. These story lines are stale, and most of these “superstars” need new character arcs. #SmackDown

The storylines have been stale for the last five years. The only times there has been anything note-worthy — CM Punk’s pipebomb, Daniel Bryan’s rise to the top — it has been a product of fan reaction and demand from the WWE Universe. Those are two examples of results that write themselves. All the writers had to do at that point was sit back, fold their arms behind their heads and relax.

Sarah ‏@JGabePrincess
Christian!!!! <3 #SmackDown

It was nice seeing him return and getting a spot at the Elimination Chamber PPV. Myself, I hoped he would return at the Royal Rumble but any time is a good time in my books.

kurt henning ‏@lemont_j
#SmackDown was really good.

I end it with Kurt’s statement. Smackdown WAS good.

That’s it for this week’s edition of LWOS’ Follow The Tweeters. Make sure next week to tune into both Raw and Smackdown and when you tweet, stick in those hashtags and you may find your tweets in a future article! Who knows, maybe TNA Impact may find its way into the next edition of FTT… Tune in!
